Two in one turkey call
Abstract
An apparatus for both locating and calling turkeys during a hunt comprising a box member having a handle portion disposed on one end of the box member and an inner chamber portion. Upper edges of side walls of the box member act as sound rails. A lid member is engageable with the box member and the upper edges of the side rails. There is a striker member having a handle member and a stick member. The handle member of the striker rests in a groove formed in an end of the handle portion while the stick member is placed through an aperture in a wall member of the box member and sits in the inner chamber. The lid member is secured to the end of the box member. There is at least one insert disposed in a bottom portion of the box member for producing turkey sounds when scratched by the stick end of the striker.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An apparatus for both locating and calling turkeys during a hunt, said apparatus comprising:
(a) a box member having a predetermined shape and formed of a predetermined material, upper edges of side walls of said box member being sound rails, said box member including;
(i) a handle portion disposed on one end of said box member, said handle portion having a cut out groove disposed on an outer end thereof;
(ii) an inner chamber portion defined by an end wall of said box member disposed on an opposite end of said box member as said handle portion, an inner surface of said bottom of said box member, an inner surface of a wall member disposed closely adjacent an inner end of said handle portion and an inner surface of said side walls,
(iii) an aperture formed in a central portion of said wall member;
(b) a lid member engageable with a top portion of said end wall of said box member and said top portion of said side walls; (c) a removable striker member having each of a handle member and a stick member, said handle member of said striker member engageable with said groove disposed on said outer end of said handle portion of said box member and said stick member engageable with said aperture disposed on said wall member; (d) a means for securing said lid member to said box member; and (e) at least one insert inserted into a cavity formed in an outer portion of said bottom of said box member, said at least one insert being inserted in said cavity in said bottom of said box member so as not to protrude from an outer surface of said bottom of said box member.
2 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said apparatus includes two inserts.
3 . The apparatus, according to claim 2 , wherein one of said two inserts is inserted in an end of said bottom portion of said box member closely adjacent said end wall.
4 . The apparatus, according to claim 3 , wherein another of said two inserts is inserted in a bottom portion of said handle portion of said box member closely adjacent said outer end thereof.
5 . The apparatus, according to claim 2 , wherein one of said inserts are selected from at least one of metal and slate.
6 . The apparatus, according to claim 5 , wherein both of said inserts are metal.
7 . The apparatus, according to claim 5 , wherein one of said inserts is aluminum.
8 . The apparatus, according to claim 5 , wherein one of said inserts is slate.
9 . The apparatus, according to claim 2 , wherein each of said two inserts is inserted into each of two cavities formed in said bottom portion of said apparatus so that said inserts do not protrude from said bottom surface of said box member and said handle portion.
10 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said lid member is used to rub against said sound rails of said box member so as to produce turkey vocalizations.
11 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein a portion of said stick end of said striker member rests inside said chamber portion of said box member.
12 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said stick end of said striker is used to scratch either of said inserts to produce different turkey sounds.
13 . The apparatus, according to claim 8 , wherein different turkey sounds can be produced when user places hands on different places on said side walls of said box member when lid member is rubbed against said sound rails of said box member.
14 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said removable striker member is removed from said apparatus by simply sliding said striker member out of said apparatus.
15 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said means for securing said lid member is a screw.
16 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said upper edges of said side rails have an arcuate shape.
17 . The apparatus, according to claim 1 , wherein said handle member of said striker member is locked in place in said groove of said handle portion until removed by such user.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
