Analyte testing device

Abstract

The present invention is a testing device for testing analyte levels in bodily fluids. The testing device comprises memory ( 202 ) for storing data, said data being analyte data related to analyte measurements carried out by the meter and lifestyle data; initiation means ( 102 ) for initiating immediate entry of data related to a specific category of lifestyle data; navigation means ( 104 ) for entry and navigation of said data; and transfer means ( 258 ) for transferring said data to said memory. Preferably, the testing device is a glucose meter and one of the analytes being tested is glucose.

         38 . A method of using an analyte testing device having a housing with a processor disposed in the housing and configured to determine analyte amount in a body fluid, a display coupled to the processor and a plurality of user interface buttons in communication with the processor, the method comprising:
 measuring an analyte amount in a body fluid of a user;   displaying a value of the analyte amount;   prompting a user to select a specific user interface button concurrent with a display of the analyte amount; and   associating the analyte measurement with descriptive comments for food intake, health status, and exercise.   
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 38 , further comprising displaying a suggestion upon the value of the analyte measurement being below a pre-defined value. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 38 , in which the comments for food intake include: Breakfast, Before Breakfast, After Breakfast, Before Lunch, Lunch, After Lunch, Before Dinner, Dinner, After Dinner, Night, or Alcohol. 
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 40 , in which the comments for food intake further include: Carbs, Fats, Calories, Proteins or Units of Alcohol. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 41 , further comprising: displaying measured analyte amounts for one of more of time periods associated with one of more of the comments for food intake. 
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 38 , in which the comments for health status include: Stress, Hypo, Illness, Menses, Vacation, or Other. 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 42 , in which the comments for health status further include: Ketones, HbA1c, Microalbumin, Cholesterol, Blood pressure, Eye Exam, Foot Exam, Weight/Height and Dr. Visit. 
     
     
         45 . The method of  claim 44 , further comprising: displaying measured analyte amounts for one of more of time periods associated with one of more of the comments for health status. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 38 , in which the comments for exercise include: Before, After, Or During. 
     
     
         47 . The method of  claim 46 , in which the comments for exercise further include: comments corresponding to an intensity of exercise from one of Mild, Moderate and Hard. 
     
     
         48 . The method of  claim 43 , further comprising: displaying measured analyte amounts for one of more of time periods associated with one of more of the comments for exercise.
