Abstract

A lightweight, portable book strap device is provided which allows students to conveniently transport their school books and other materials in a manner which allows the contents carried by the device to be readily visible. The device is adapted to be carried over the shoulder(s) and/or back of a user, or may be carried by its handle.

1 . A book strap device, comprising:
 a base, the base is defined of an elongated, rectangular configuration and is sized so as to support a plurality of books, the base comprising:   a main body portion, the main body portion includes a short upper end edge opposing a short lower end edge, and a long first side edge opposing a long second side edge, the main body portion includes a front side and a bottom side, the front side of the main body portion of the base is disposed with at least one fastening means;   a reinforcement skirt, the reinforcement skirt is attached to the main body portion along the entire perimeter thereof;   a first pocket, the first pocket is suitably attached along the short lower end edge atop the front side of the main body portion;   a pair of binder straps, the pair of binder straps are releasably attached proximally to the short upper end edge and the short lower end edge of the main body portion;   a first shoulder strap, the first shoulder strap has an upper end suitably attached adjacent a left upper edge of the reinforcement skirt and a lower end suitably attached adjacent a first longitudinal side edge of the reinforcement skirt;   a second shoulder strap, the second shoulder strap has an upper end suitably attached adjacent a right upper edge of the reinforcement skirt and a lower end suitably attached adjacent a second longitudinal side edge of the reinforcement skirt;   a pair of loops, the pair of loops is provided along an upper end edge corners respectively of the reinforcement skirt;   an auxiliary shoulder strap, the auxiliary shoulder strap having outermost ends with fasteners attached thereto, respectively, the fasteners being removably securable to hooks respectively, and the hooks being secured to the pair of loops respectively;   a handle, the handle is fixedly attached to an upper end edge of the reinforcement skirt between the loops; and   a vertical strap, the vertical strap is attached to a lower end edge of the reinforcement skirt, the vertical strap includes a buckle, the buckle comprising a female mating end and a male mating end, the male mating end is fixedly attached to an upper end edge of the reinforcement skirt, the female mating end releasably attaches to the male mating end.   
   
   
       2 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the main body portion is constructed of a substantially porous, flexible material. 
   
   
       3 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the pair of binder straps include a first binder strap and a second binder strap, the first binder strap and the second binder strap each comprises a main body section which includes a short upper end edge opposing a short lower end edge, and a long first side edge opposing a long second side edge, the main body section further includes a front side and a bottom side, the main body section includes a reinforcement apron attached thereto along an entire perimeter thereof.

The book strap device of  claim 3 , wherein the first binder strap includes a first separable fastener means and a second separable fastener means, the first separable fastener means is disposed on the reinforcement apron along the bottom side of the main body section of the first binder strap proximal to the short upper end edge of the main body section, the second separable fastener means is disposed on reinforcement apron along the front side of main body section of first binder strap proximal to the short lower end edge of the main body section. 
   
   
       5 . The book strap device of  claim 3 , wherein the second binder strap includes a first separable fastener means and a second separable fastener means, the first separable fastener means is disposed on the reinforcement apron along the bottom side of the main body section of the second binder strap proximal to the short upper end edge of the main body section, the second separable fastener means is disposed on the reinforcement apron along the front side of the main body section of the second binder strap proximal to the short lower end edge of the main body section. 
   
   
       6 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the front side of the main body portion is disposed with two fastening means for releasably attaching the first binder strap and the second binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short upper end edge of the main body portion, the two fastening means are disposed horizontally in a parallel orientation atop the front side of the main body portion, proximal the short upper end edge of the main body portion, and perpendicular with respect to the long first side edge and long second side edge of the main body portion, the two fastening means include mating components for mating respectively with the first separable fastener means of the first binder strap and the first separable fastener means of the second binder strap, the first separable fastener means of first binder strap mates with one of the fastener means, thereby releasably attaching the first binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short upper end edge of the main body section of the first binder strap, the first separable fastener means of the second binder strap mates with the other fastener means, thereby releasably attaching the second binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short upper end edge of the main body section of the second binder strap, the two fastening means allow for selective lateral adjustment of the first binder strap and the second binder strap about the main body portion. 
   
   
       7 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the bottom side of the main body portion is disposed with two fastening means for releasably attaching the second binder strap and the first binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short lower end edge of the main body portion, the two fastening means are positioned vertically in a parallel orientation atop the bottom side of the main body portion, proximal the short lower end edge of the main body portion, and parallel with respect to the long second side edge and the long first side edge of the main body portion, the two fastening means include mating components for mating respectively with the second separable fastener means of the first binder strap and the second separable fastener means of the second binder strap, the second separable fastener means of the second binder strap mates with one of the fastener means, thereby releasably attaching the second binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short lower end edge of the main body section of the second binder strap, the second separable fastener means of the first binder strap mates with the other fastener means, thereby releasably attaching the first binder strap to the main body portion proximal the short lower end edge of the main body section of the first binder strap, the two fastening means allow for selective longitudinal adjustment of the first binder strap and the second binder strap about the main body portion. 
   
   
       8 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the first shoulder strap includes an adjustment mechanism to allow tightening and loosening of the first shoulder strap. 
   
   
       9 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the second shoulder strap includes an adjustment mechanism to allow tightening and loosening of the second shoulder strap. 
   
   
       10 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a second pocket, the second pocket is suitably attached proximally atop the reinforcement skirt along the short upper end edge of the front side of the main body portion, the second pocket is adapted for holding a water-proof, lightweight flexible cover to shield the book strap device from rain and other elements.   
   
   
       11 . The book strap device of  claim 1 , wherein the reinforcement skirt is constructed of a flexible material. 
   
   
       12 . The book strap device of  claim 3 , wherein the main body section is constructed of a substantially porous, flexible material 
   
   
       13 . The book strap device of  claim 3 , wherein the reinforcement apron is constructed of a flexible material. 
   
   
       14 . The book strap device of  claim 10 , wherein the second pocket is constructed of a transparent or a substantially porous, flexible material. 
   
   
       15 . A book strap apparatus, comprising:
 a base, the base is defined of an elongated, rectangular configuration and is sized so as to support a plurality of books, the base comprising:   a main body portion, the main body portion includes a short upper end edge opposing a short lower end edge, and a long first side edge opposing a long second side edge, the main body portion includes a front side and a bottom side, the front side of the main body portion of the base is disposed with at least one fastening means;   a reinforcement skirt, the reinforcement skirt is attached to the main body portion along the entire perimeter thereof;   a first pocket, the first pocket is suitably attached along the short lower end edge atop the front side of the main body portion;   a pair of binder straps, the pair of binder straps are releasably attached proximally to the short upper end edge and the short lower end edge of the main body portion;   a first shoulder strap, the first shoulder strap has an upper end suitably attached adjacent a left upper edge of the reinforcement skirt and a lower end suitably attached adjacent a first longitudinal side edge of the reinforcement skirt;   a second shoulder strap, the second shoulder strap has an upper end suitably attached adjacent a right upper edge of the reinforcement skirt and a lower end suitably attached adjacent a second longitudinal side edge of the reinforcement skirt;   a pair of loops, the pair of loops is provided along an upper end edge corners respectively of the reinforcement skirt;   an auxiliary shoulder strap, the auxiliary shoulder strap having outermost ends with fasteners attached thereto, respectively, the fasteners being removably securable to hooks respectively, and the hooks being secured to the pair of loops respectively;   a handle, the handle is fixedly attached to an upper end edge of the reinforcement skirt between the loops;   a vertical strap, the vertical strap is attached to a lower end edge of the reinforcement skirt, the vertical strap includes a buckle, the buckle comprising a female mating end and a male mating end, the male mating end is fixedly attached to an upper end edge of the reinforcement skirt, the female mating end releasably attaches to the male mating end; and   a telescopic pull handle and wheels assembly.   
   
   
       16 . The book strap apparatus of  claim 15 , wherein the telescopic pull handle and wheels assembly comprises a base support having wheels rotatably mounted thereto, the base support is suitably attached perpendicularly to the front side of the main body portion, about a mid-length theredown, the base support includes a reinforcement plate molded integral thereto and extending vertically therefrom, the reinforcement plate extends vertically from an elongated centerline of the base support and terminates proximate the reinforcement skirt along the short upper end edge of the main body portion, the reinforcement plate is suitably attached to the front side of the main body portion. 
   
   
       17 . The book strap apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the telescopic pull handle and wheels assembly further comprises:
 an outer tubular section, a first inner tubular section, and a second tubular section, the outer tubular section is suitably mounted to or molded integral to the reinforcement plate in a parallel-aligned manner, the outer tubular section having a lower end suitably mounted to or formed integral to the base support, the outer tubular section telescopically receives the first inner tubular section, the outer tubular section includes a first hole defined through an anterior end thereof and a second hole defined through the posterior end thereof, the outer tubular section includes a lip converging circumferentially therearound, proximate an upper end of the outer tubular section, the first inner tubular section includes a pull handle mounted atop an upper end thereof, the second inner tubular section is slidably received within the first inner tubular section, the second inner tubular section includes a release button resting thereatop, the release button protrudes from the pull handle, the second inner tubular section has a lower end which rests atop a spring clip, the spring clip exerts tension against the second inner tubular section which in turn pushes against the release button, the spring clip is affixed to an inner sidewall of the first inner tubular section, the spring clip includes a portion that protrudes through a hole in the first inner tubular section and protrudes through the second hole of the outer tubular section, thereby locking the first inner tubular section, and in turn the pull handle, in a lowered, resting position, whereupon depression of the release button causes the portion of the spring clip to be retracted from the second hole of the outer tubular section and pulling the pull handle upward simultaneously allows for the pull handle to be adjusted to an extended position, and as the pull handle is pulled upward, the release button is released, and the first inner tubular section is telescopically pulled upward, until the portion of the spring clip protrudes through the first hole of the outer tubular section, thereby locking the first inner tubular section, and in turn the pull handle, in an extended position.   
   
   
       18 . The book strap apparatus of  claim 17 , wherein the first inner tubular section includes a bulbous portion formed along a lower end thereof so as to prevent the first inner tubular section from being pulled past the lip of the outer tubular section. 
   
   
       19 . The book strap apparatus of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 a second pocket, the second pocket is suitably attached proximally atop the reinforcement skirt along the short upper end edge of the front side of the main body portion, the second pocket is adapted for holding a water-proof, lightweight flexible cover to shield the book strap apparatus from rain and other elements.   
   
   
       20 . The book strap apparatus of  claim 19 , further comprising:
 a pair of feet suitably attached along opposing sides of the reinforcement skirt atop the front side of the main body portion, distal to the base support, so as to provide protection to the main body portion.
