Abstract

A permanent, resilient filtering pod for brewing beverages which negates the necessity and costs of purchasing filters after each brewed cup provides an enclosed vessel to hold the brewed substance and prevents the brewed substances from spilling over the beverage brewing machine basket or clogging the spray nozzle of the beverage brewing machine yet allows the user to fill the pod with brewing substances purchased in bulk and to control the strength of the beverage brewed.

1 . A permeable and permanent filtering pod for brewing beverages, comprising:
 a generally acid and alkali resistant, heat and wear resistant material of a predetermined first state of configuration for receiving a brewable substance within a cavity formed by the resistant material of the pod, said material is resilient and deformable to a second state of configuration when finger pressure is applied to the sides of the pod and then returning to said first state of configuration when finger pressure is released;   a slit in the pod providing a wide opening into said pod cavity for inserting brewable substance of a pre-selected amount when the slit is deformed in said second state of configuration and then providing a sealed opening when in said first state of configuration to prevent brewed material from overflowing into said beverage during the brewing process.   
   
   
       2 . The pod of  claim 1 , wherein the permeable and permanent pod material is comprised of such resilient, deformable and resistant material such as a metal, a plastic, a rubber, a fabric or a surgical steel micro mesh, all of which do not flake or snag but filters water there through with even the finest ground brewable substances. 
   
   
       3 . The pod of  claim 1 , wherein the pod further includes a generally annular rim dividing the pod into a generally concave top surface and a generally bowl shaped bottom wherein the slit is on the top surface of the pod. 
   
   
       4 . The pod of  claim 3 , wherein the slit extends longitudinal along a portion of the diameter of the top surface of the pod but does not come into contact with the rim. 
   
   
       5 . The pod of  claim 3 , wherein the top surface is constructed of one deformable and resilient material and the bottom is constructed of a second deformable and resilient material and the slit opening is constructed of the same material as either the top surface or bottom or of yet another resilient, deformable material. 
   
   
       6 . The pod of  claim 4 , wherein the material of the pod is permeable but prevents the brewing substance of either freshly ground coffee grounds or tea leaves from passing through the material during the brewing process when hot water is dripped through the pod into a container below the pod. 
   
   
       7 . A permanent filtering pod for one-cup coffee brewer, comprising:
 a generally oval shaped tubular body defining a cavity inside for holding brewing substances having a generally concave top surface, a generally bowl shaped bottom, an annular rim around the circumference of the oval shaped body dividing the top surface from the bottom, a slit opening extends longitudinally across the top surface a predetermined distance between opposing sides on the rim, the body further consisting of a resilient, permeable, heat and wear resistant material which is deformable when finger pressure is applied to opposing sides of the body, said pressure against opposing sides in a longitudinal axis with the length of the slit deforming the slit into a wide opening into the cavity of the pod for inserting the brewing substances, said slit closing the opening when finger pressure against the side of the body is released thereby closing the opening formed by the slit and sealing the brewing substances therein for the brewing stage of coffee making, wherein the user of the pod is able to pre-select the amount of brewing substance placed within the pod for brewing to adjust the strength of coffee to suit the user taste.   
   
   
       8 . The pod of  claim 6 , wherein the body material is surgical steel micro mesh that does not flake or snag when used with the coffee brewer. 
   
   
       9 . The pod of  claim 7 , wherein the body further includes the rim having a generally and slightly defined protrusion above the top surface and bottom where it connects between the top surface and bottom and wherein all of the body components are made of the same permeable material. 
   
   
       10 . The pod of  claim 7 , wherein the body is made from a deformable and resilient metal, plastic, rubber or fabric that is acid, alkali, heat and wear resistant. 
   
   
       11 . The pod of  claim 7 , wherein the rim on the body defines a protrusion of a predetermined distance beyond where the rim is attached to the top surface and bottom of the pod to provide a surface for resting upon an annular and generally horizontally disposed ledge or inner rim typically formed at the bottom opening of a coffee brewer basket for inclusion of the pod into the coffee brewer. 
   
   
       12 . The pod of  claim 9 , wherein the top surface and the bottom are made of different resilient and deformable materials and the slit is made of either the top surface or bottom material or some other resilient and deformable material.
