Abstract

The present invention relates generally to the identification of biological markers associated with an increased risk of developing Diabetes, as well as methods of using such biological markers in diagnosis and prognosis of Diabetes. The biological markers of the invention may indicate new targets for therapy or constitute new therapeutics for the treatment or prevention of Diabetes.

1 . An isolated peptide comprising an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, and SEQ ID NO: 3. 
     
     
         2 . An isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, and SEQ ID NO: 3. 
     
     
         3 . A pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting one or more kinases, comprising as an active ingredient the isolated peptide of  claim 1 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. 
     
     
         4 . A protein kinase inhibitor comprising as an active ingredient the isolated peptide of  claim 1 , and optionally, a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. 
     
     
         4 . A method of inhibiting one or more kinases in a cell, comprising contacting the cell with the isolated peptide of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         5 . A method of inhibiting one or more kinases in a subject, comprising administering to the subject the pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3  and measuring the inhibition of the one or more kinases. 
     
     
         6 . A method of treating type 2 Diabetes or a pre-diabetic condition in a subject, comprising administering to the subject the pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3 .
