Abstract
A piece of furniture ( 1 ) that can be brought in a sofa/chair configuration and a bed configuration, wherein the piece of furniture is provided with a frame ( 2 ) comprising a first frame part ( 3 ) provided with a first extremity ( 3 a ), and a second extremity ( 3 b ) located opposite the first extremity ( 3 a ), a second frame part ( 4 ) being hingedly connected to the first frame part ( 3 ) at the location of the first extremity ( 3 a ) or being slideably connected to the first frame part ( 3 ), a third frame part ( 5 ) being hingedly connected to the first frame part ( 3 ) at the location of the second extremity ( 3 b ), a fourth frame part ( 6 ) being hingedly connected to the third frame part ( 5 ), wherein the central axes ( 4 ) around which the said frame parts ( 3, 4, 5, 6 ) hinge relative to each other extend parallel to each other, while, in the sofa/chair configuration, the second frame part ( 4 ) lies on the first frame part ( 3 ), the third frame part ( 5 ) forming a backrest ( 7 ) and the fourth frame part ( 6 ) taking up a locking position in which the fourth frame part ( 6 ) engages the first ( 3 ) or second ( 4 ) frame part for holding the third frame part ( 5 ) in a backrest position.

A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein the first frame part ( 3 ) is provided with supporting elements ( 8 ), such as, for instance, legs, with the aid of which the frame part ( 3 ) can be placed on the ground, while the second ( 4 ) and fourth frame parts ( 6 ) are each provided with supporting elements ( 8 ′) such as, for instance, legs, with the aid of which these frame parts ( 4 , 6 ) rest on the ground when the piece of furniture ( 1 ) is in the bed configuration.
3 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein the legs ( 8 ′) of the fourth frame part ( 6 ) are designed for engaging, in the sofa/chair configuration, the first ( 3 ) or second ( 4 ) frame part for holding the third frame
part ( 5 ) in the backrest position relative to the first ( 3 ) or second ( 4 ) frame part and for absorbing forces applied to the third frame part ( 5 ).
4 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein at least one detachable locking ( 9 ) is provided for holding the fourth frame part ( 6 ) in the locking position when the piece of furniture ( 1 ) is in the sofa/chair configuration.

A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 4 , wherein the detachable locking ( 9 ) comprises a recess ( 10 ) in the fourth frame part ( 6 ) and a projection ( 11 ) in the first ( 3 ), second ( 4 ) or third ( 5 ) frame part, while in the locking position of the fourth frame part ( 6 ), the projection ( 11 ) is received in the recess ( 10 ) and, at that location, engages it in a manner such that the fourth frame part ( 6 ) is held in the locking position.

A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 4 , wherein the detachable locking ( 9 ) comprises a recess ( 10 ′) in the first frame part ( 3 ) and a recess ( 10 ″) in the second frame part ( 4 ) and, cooperating with said recesses ( 10 ′, 10 ″), a projection ( 11 ′) in the fourth frame part ( 6 ), while the recesses ( 10 ′, 10 ″) in the first ( 3 ) and the second ( 4 ) frame part engage together, in a conformable manner, around the projection (H′) in the fourth frame part ( 6 ) when the second frame part ( 4 ) rests on the first frame part ( 3 ) and when the fourth frame part ( 6 ) is in the locking position.
7 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 4 , wherein the detachable locking ( 9 ) is formed by a friction-based engagement between the fourth frame part ( 6 ) and at least one of the first ( 3 ), second ( 4 ) or third ( 5 ) frame parts.

A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein the central hinge axis (H) of the hinge ( 12 ), around which the second frame part ( 4 ) can pivot relative to the first frame part ( 3 ), is located above the level where a free edge ( 13 ) of the second frame part ( 4 ) located opposite the hinge ( 12 ) is situated when this is folded onto the first frame part ( 3 ), such that the second frame part ( 4 ) provides a seat ( 13 ) proceeding from the third frame part ( 5 ), that forms the backrest ( 7 ), to the said hinge ( 12 ) in a slightly upward inclining manner.
9 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 8 , wherein the difference in level (h) between the side ( 16 ) proximal to the backrest ( 7 ) and the hinge side ( 17 ) of the second frame part ( 4 ), when this is folded onto the first frame part ( 3 ), is approximately 30 mm.
10 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein the frame parts ( 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ) are each provided with bearing surfaces (S) on which cushions ( 18 ) are placeable for forming a bed with the piece of furniture ( 1 ) in the bed configuration.
11 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 10 , wherein at least one of the bearing surfaces (S), and preferably all bearing surfaces, comprises a plate ( 19 ) provided with ventilation openings ( 20 ).
12 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 10 , wherein at least one of the bearing surfaces (S), and preferably all bearing surfaces, comprises a number of parallel slats ( 21 ).
13 . A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 10 , wherein, with the piece of furniture ( 1 ) in the bed configuration, the cushions ( 18 ) together form a mattress (M) and wherein, with the piece of furniture ( 1 ) in the sofa/chair configuration, the cushions ( 18 ) provide at least one seat cushion (K) and one backrest cushion (K′).

A piece of furniture ( 1 ) according to claim 13 , wherein, with the piece of furniture ( 1 ) in the sofa/chair configuration, on the seat ( 13 ) of the piece of furniture ( 1 ), the cushions (K) are located which, in the bed configuration, He on the first ( 3 ) and the second ( 4 ) frame part, while the cushion ( 17 ) that rests, in the bed configuration, on the third frame part ( 5 ), is the cushion (K) resting against the backrest ( 7 ) in the sofa/chair configuration.
15 . A piece of furniture according to claim 13 , wherein the cushion that rests, in the bed configuration, on the bearing surface (S) of the fourth frame part ( 6 ), is situated, in the sofa/chair configuration, on the side of the third frame part ( 5 ), forming the backrest, remote from the seat.

A piece of furniture according to claim 15 , wherein the respective cushion has a length which substantially corresponds to double the distance between the second extremity ( 5 b ) of the third frame part and the central hinge axis (H) of the hinge connection between the third and the fourth frame part ( 5 , 6 , respectively).

A piece of furniture according to claim 3 , wherein the legs of the fourth frame part are each provided with a first projection which engages, with the piece of furniture in the sofa/chair configuration, a top side of the first or second frame part, and with a second projection which engages, in the sofa/chair configuration, a lower side of the first or second frame part.
18 . A piece of furniture according to claim 17 , wherein the first or the second frame part are further provided on each side with a lower and an upper recess for receiving therein, at least partly, the first and the second—projections, respectively.
19 . A piece of furniture (I) according to claim 2 , wherein the legs ( 8 ′) of the fourth frame part ( 6 ) are designed for engaging, in the sofa/chair configuration, the first ( 3 ) or second ( 4 ) frame part for holding the third frame part ( 5 ) in the backrest position relative to the first ( 3 ) or second ( 4 ) frame part and for absorbing forces applied to the third frame part ( 5 ).
