Method and apparatus for fast link setup in a wireless communication system
Abstract
A method and apparatus for a communication system provide for fast link setup for a mobile station by transmitting a request message, transmitting an assignment message from the base station to the mobile station, and transmitting a notification message from the base station to a base station controller. The mobile station transmits an indication message to the base station controller indicating a successful completion of acquiring the data packet channel. The base station controller processes the indication message for message integrity and security feature. A portion of the available communication resources at the base station is allocated for an immediate response to the request message for acquiring a data packet channel.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for a communication system comprising:
receiving a request message sent by a mobile station to a base station to establish a radio link with the base station; sending an assignment message from the base station to the mobile station to assign channel resources to the mobile station; and sending a notification message from the base station to a base station controller to inform the base station controller of the mobile station in process of establishing a radio link with the base station.
2 . The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:
selecting the channel resources to assign to the mobile station from a pool of channel resources reserved for fast link setup.
3 . The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:
forwarding an indication message received from the mobile station to the base station controller, the indication message being processed by the base station controller for message integrity or security feature, or both.
4 . The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:
receiving a radio link release message sent by the base station controller to the base station in response to an indication message not being received by the base station controller from the mobile station within a predetermined time period of the notification message; and releasing the channel resources assigned to the mobile station in response to the radio link release message.
5 . A apparatus for a communication system comprising:
means for receiving a request message sent by a mobile station to a base station to establish a radio link with the base station; means for sending an assignment message from the base station to the mobile station to assign channel resources to the mobile station; and means for sending a notification message from the base station to a base station controller to inform the base station controller of the mobile station in process of establishing a radio link with the base station.
6 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 further comprising:
means for selecting the channel resources to assign to the mobile station from a pool of channel resources reserved for fast link setup.
7 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 further comprising:
means for forwarding an indication message received from the mobile station to the base station controller, the indication message being processed by the base station controller for message integrity or security feature, or both.
8 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 further comprising:
means for receiving a radio link release message sent by the base station controller to the base station in response to an indication message not being received by the base station controller from the mobile station within a predetermined time period of the notification message; and means for releasing the channel resources assigned to the mobile station in response to the radio link release message.
9 . A method for a communication system comprising:
sending a request message from a mobile station to a base station to establish a radio link with the base station; receiving an assignment message sent by the base station to the mobile station, the assignment message conveying channel resources assigned by the base station to the mobile station; performing channel acquisition in response to the assignment message; and sending an indication message from the mobile station to a base station controller after successful channel acquisition.
10 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the indication message is processed by the base station controller for message integrity, and wherein the channel resources assigned to the mobile station are released if the processing for message integrity fails.
11 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the indication message is processed by the base station controller for security feature, and wherein the channel resources assigned to the mobile station are released if the processing for security feature fails.
12 . An apparatus for a communication system comprising:
means for sending a request message from a mobile station to a base station to establish a radio link with the base station; means for receiving an assignment message sent by the base station to the mobile station, the assignment message conveying channel resources assigned by the base station to the mobile station; means for performing channel acquisition in response to the assignment message; and means for sending an indication message from the mobile station to a base, station controller after successful channel acquisition.
13 . The apparatus as recited in claim 12 , wherein the indication message is processed by the base station controller for message integrity, and wherein the channel resources assigned to the mobile station are released if the processing for message integrity fails.
14 . The apparatus as recited in claim 12 , wherein the indication message is processed by the base station controller for security feature, and wherein the channel resources assigned to the mobile station are released if the processing for security feature fails.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
