Abstract

A hose joint assembly includes a fitting, a hose receivable onto the fitting, and an adhesive for bonding the hose and the fitting together. For example, the adhesive is a microencapsulated two-part epoxy adhesive that functions as a lubricant when assembling the hose onto the fitting before curing.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A hose joint assembly comprising:
a fitting; a hose receivable onto the fitting; and an adhesive for bonding the hose and the fitting together.

2 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least one of the hose or the fitting includes an imperfection that forms a void in a wall of the hose of the fitting, wherein the adhesive at least partially fills the imperfection.

3 . The assembly as recited in claim 2 , wherein the imperfection comprises a score mark.

4 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the adhesive comprises a microencapsulated adhesive.

5 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the adhesive comprises cyanoacrylate.

6 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the adhesive comprises a first epoxy precursor and microcapsules containing a second epoxy precursor, where the microcapsules are suspended within the first epoxy precursor.

7 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hose comprises a plurality of layers.

8 . The assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein at least one of the plurality of layers comprises elastomer.

9 . The assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein at least one of the plurality of layers comprises ethylene propylene diene monomer elastomer.

10 . The assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein at least one of the plurality of layers comprises elastomer and another of the plurality of layers comprises plastic.

11 . The assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the fitting is fluidly connected with at least one of a vehicle transmission or a radiator.

12 . A hose joint assembly comprising, from inside out, a metal fitting defining a conduit there through, a microencapsulated adhesive layer, an elastomer hose layer bonded to the metal fitting by the microencapsulated adhesive layer, and a polymer hose layer bonded directly to the elastomer hose layer.

13 . The hose joint assembly as recited in claim 12 , wherein the microencapsulated adhesive layer comprises a two-part epoxy, the elastomer hose layer includes ethylene propylene diene monomer, and the polymer hose layer includes plastic.

14 . A method of repairing a hose joint assembly, comprising the steps of:
 (a) removing a hose that is secured on a fitting; (b) applying a lubricant/adhesive to at least one of the outer surface of the fitting or to an inner surface of a replacement hose; and (c) sliding the replacement hose onto the fitting and curing the lubricant/adhesive.

15 . The method as recited in claim 14 , wherein said step (a) includes cutting the hose.

16 . The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein said step (a) includes scoring an outer surface of the fitting to thereby form a score mark.

17 . The method as recited in claim 16 , wherein said step (b) includes at least partially filling the score mark with the adhesive/lubricant.
