Digging and backfill apparatus
Abstract
A mobile digging and backfill system for removing and collecting material above a buried utility. The system comprises a mobile chassis, a collection tank mounted to the chassis, a water pump mounted to the chassis for delivering a pressurized liquid flow against the material for loosening the material at a location, a vacuum pump connected to the collection tank so that an air stream created by the vacuum pump draws the material and the fluid from the location into the collection tank, and at least one backfill reservoir mounted to the chassis for carrying backfill for placement at the location.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A mobile digging and backfill system for removing and collecting material comprising:
a. a mobile chassis; b. a collection tank mounted to said chassis for storing material removed and collected from a location; c. a vacuum pump connected to said collection tank for pulling an air stream through said collection tank that carries the material from the location into said collection tank; and d. at least one backfill reservoir having a closable opening for allowing backfill to be added or removed from said backfill reservoir, said at least one backfill reservoir being movably mounted on said chassis between a first transport position and a second offload position.
2 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , further comprising a water pump having an output connected to a nozzle for delivering a pressurized liquid flow against the material for loosening the material at the location.
3 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , further comprising a motor that drives said vacuum pump and said water pump.
4 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 3 , further comprising a liquid reservoir connected to said water pump.
5 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , further comprising a hose that connects a digging tool to said collection tank so that said air stream is pulled through said digging tool.
6 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one backfill reservoir comprises:
a. an elongated body; b. a first end wall; and c. a second end wall opposite said first end wall, wherein said first end wall defines said closeable opening.
7 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , further comprising a drill for cutting through a hard surface above the material surrounding the location.
8 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one backfill reservoir is selectively connected to said vacuum pump so that said air stream generated by said vacuum pump can be used to draw backfill into said at least one backfill reservoir.
9 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one backfill reservoir comprises a bottom portion and a top portion attached to said bottom portion by a hinge so that said top portion can be opened with respect to said bottom portion.
10 . A mobile digging and backfill system for removing and collecting material, the system comprising:
a. a frame; b. collection tank moveably mounted to said chassis for storing the material removed and collected from a location; c. a vacuum pump having an input connected to said collection tank so that an air stream created by said vacuum pump is drawn through said collection tank such that the material from the location are drawn into said collection tank; d. a digging tool comprising a vacuum passage in fluid communication with said collection tank; e. a motor in driving engagement with said vacuum pump; and f. a first backfill reservoir moveably mounted on said frame to enable offloading of the backfill contained in said first backfill reservoir.
11 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 10 , further comprising a drill having:
a. a base having a top surface and a generally planar bottom surface; b. a second motor connected to said base; and c. a saw blade coupled to said second motor.
12 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 11 , wherein said vacuum pump is selectively connected to said base to secure said base to a hard material proximate the location.
13 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 12 , said base further comprising a connector coupled to said base and defining a passageway therethrough that is in fluid communication with said generally planar bottom surface, and a gasket coupled to said generally planar bottom surface.
14 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 10 , wherein said vacuum pump is selectively connected to one of said collection tank for pulling a vacuum air stream through said collection tank and said first backfill reservoir for pulling a vacuum air stream through said first backfill reservoir.
15 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 27 , wherein said first backfill reservoir is selectively connected to said vacuum pump so that said air stream created by said vacuum pump draws backfill into said first backfill reservoir.
16 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 11 , wherein said drill is powered by one of a hydraulic pump and said motor.
17 . A mobile digging and backfill system for removing and collecting material from a location, the system comprising:
a. a frame; b. a collection tank coupled to said frame for storing the material removed and collected from the location; c. a first backfill reservoir moveable between a transport position and a backfill position; d. a vacuum pump selectively coupled to one of said collection tank and said first backfill reservoir that draws an air stream through said one of said collection tank and said first backfill reservoir; and e. a motor in driving engagement with said vacuum pump.
18 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 17 , further comprising a pressurized liquid system.
19 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 18 , further comprising a water pump and a liquid reservoir connected to said water pump.
20 . The mobile digging and backfill system of claim 18 , further comprising a digging tool selectively coupled to said collection tank and said pressurized liquid system.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
