Abstract
A method and composition for treating a patient suffering from a disease, disorder or condition and associated pain include the administration to the patient of a therapeutically effective amount of a neurotoxin selected from a group consisting of Botulinum toxin types A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

A method for treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a botulinum toxin to muscles of the patient having muscle spasms secondary to stroke, thereby treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is selected from the group consisting of botulinum toxin types A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is botulinum toxin type A.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of botulinum toxin is between about 0.01 to about 1000 units.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of botulinum toxin is between about 50 to about 1000 units.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke are associated with muscle activity or contracture.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin does not cause local hypotonicity to develop.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to major muscles involved in severe closing of the patient's hand.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to muscles involved in curling of the patient's wrist.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to muscles involved in closing of the patient's legs.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin treats pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke in seven to twenty-one days after administration.

A method for treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising the step of administering from 50 to 300 units of a botulinum toxin type A to muscles of the patient having muscle spasms secondary to stroke, thereby treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to major muscles involved in severe closing of the patient's hand.
14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to muscles involved in curling of the patient's wrist.
15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to muscles involved in closing of the patient's legs.
16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin does not cause local hypotonicity to develop.
17 . A method for treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising the step of administering from 0.01 to 460 units of a botulinum toxin type A to muscles of the patient having muscle spasms secondary to stroke, whereby extensive local hypotonicity does not result and thereby treating pain associated with muscle spasms secondary to stroke.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to major muscles involved in severe closing of the patient's hand.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein administration of botulinum toxin is to muscles involved in curling of the patient's wrist.
