Abstract
A broadcast receiving apparatus wherein a user is able to control a graphical user interface (GUI) using a pointing device, and a control method thereof are provided. The broadcast receiving apparatus receives a movement pattern from a pointing device, and operates a function corresponding to the pattern. The broadcast receiving conveniently switches a pointing device between a position mode and a step mode, without having a key for switching between the position mode and the step mode or direction keys.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for controlling a graphical user interface (GUI) of a broadcast receiving apparatus, the method comprising:
receiving movement information from a pointing device; determining whether the movement information corresponds to a predetermined pattern; and if it is determined that the movement information corresponds to the predetermined pattern, controlling the broadcast receiving apparatus to perform a function corresponding to the predetermined pattern.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the function switches the GUI from a position mode to a step mode or switches the GUI from the step mode to the position mode.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the controlling comprises:
receiving a function corresponding to a preset pattern; storing the function corresponding to a preset pattern in a memory; and reading the function corresponding to a preset pattern from the memory.
4 . A method for controlling a pointing device according to a user movement, the method comprising:
sensing a movement of the pointing device; determining whether the movement corresponds to a predetermined pattern; and if it is determined that the movement corresponds to the predetermined pattern, performing a function corresponding to the predetermined pattern,.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the pointing device is a remote controller for a television.
6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the function transmits a direction signal according to the movement.
7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the function switches the pointing device from a position mode to a step mode or switches the pointing device from the step mode to the position mode.
8 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the movement is that the pointing device moves on a predetermined angle in a space.
9 . A method for controlling a graphical user interface (GUI) of a broadcast receiving apparatus, the method comprising:
receiving a selection command from a pointing device; determining whether the selection command selects a graphic object within the GUI; and if it is determined that the selection command selects the graphic object, switching the broadcast receiving apparatus between a position mode and a step mode.
10 . A broadcast receiving apparatus comprising:
a display which displays a received broadcast; a receiving unit which receives an input from a pointing device; and a control unit which controls the broadcast receiving apparatus to perform a function corresponding to a predetermined pattern if the input received by the receiving unit corresponds to the predetermined pattern.
11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the function switches the broadcast receiving apparatus between a position mode and a step mode.
12 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:
a memory which stores the function corresponding to the predetermined pattern.
13 . A pointing device comprising:
a sensor which senses movement of the pointing device; and a control unit which determines whether the movement sensed by the sensor corresponds to a predetermined pattern, and performs a function corresponding to the movement if it is determined that the movement corresponds to the predetermined pattern.
14 . The pointing device of claim 13 , wherein the function transmits a command for moving in an up, down, right, or left direction.
15 . The pointing device of claim 13 , wherein the movement is movement of the pointing device on a predetermined angle in a space.
16 . The pointing device of claim 13 , wherein the pointing device is a remote controller for a television.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
