Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes subscribing to a resource that is associated with one or more sensors and receiving presence data originating from the one or more sensors. The method includes determining a status associated with the resource based on the presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource, updating the status associated with the resource based on the presence data, and displaying the updated status associated with the resource.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a unified personal communicator utilized by an end user; and a resource tracking element operable to:
 subscribe to a resource, wherein the resource is associated with one or more sensors;
 receive presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource;
 determine a status associated with the resource based on the presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource;
 update the status associated with the resource based on the presence data; and
 display the updated status associated with the resource.

       2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the resource tracking element is further operable to:
 receive an event condition from the end user, wherein the event condition is based on the status of the resource; and generate an event if the event condition is satisfied.

       3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the event condition is satisfied if the status is updated from unavailable to available.

       4 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the event comprises communicating with an inventory element to reserve the resource.

       5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors record the presence data, wherein the presence data is associated with a presence event associated with the resource.

       6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is operable to send presence data to a presence server.

       7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the resource is one or more resources being selected from a group of resources consisting of:
 a) a conference room; b) a library book; d) audio and visual equipment.

       8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is one or more sensors being selected from a group of sensors consisting of:
 a) a thermometer;   b) a motion detector;   c) a light switch;   d) a microphone;   e) a central processor unit;   f) a barometer;   g) a camera;   h) a thermostat;   i) an inventory element; and   j) a scanning device.

       9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the unified personal communicator is further operable to customize the displayed updated status of the resource based on the presence data.

       10 . A method, comprising:
 subscribing to a resource, wherein the resource is associated with one or more sensors; receiving presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource; determining a status associated with the resource based on the presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource; updating the status associated with the resource based on the presence data; and displaying the updated status associated with the resource.

       11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
 receiving an event condition from the end user, wherein the event condition is based on the status of the resource; and generating an event if the event condition is satisfied.

       12 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the event condition is satisfied if the status is updated from unavailable to available.

       13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the event comprises communicating with an inventory element to reserve the resource.

       14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the one or more sensors record the presence data, wherein the presence data is associated with a presence event associated with the resource.

       15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the sensor is operable to send presence data to a presence server.

       16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the resource is one or more resources being selected from a group of resources consisting of:
 a) a conference room; b) a library book; d) audio and visual equipment.

       17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the sensor is one or more sensors being selected from a group of sensors consisting of:
 a) a thermometer;   b) a motion detector;   c) a light switch;   d) a microphone;   e) a central processor unit;   f) a barometer;   g) a camera;   h) a thermostat;   i) an inventory element; and   j) a scanning device.

       18 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising customizing the displayed updated status of the resource based on the presence data.

       19 . Logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to:
 subscribe to a resource, wherein the resource is associated with one or more sensors; receive presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource; determine a status associated with the resource based on the presence data originating from the one or more sensors, wherein the presence data is associated with the resource; update the status associated with the resource based on the presence data; and display the updated status associated with the resource.

       20 . The logic of claim 19 , further operable to:
 receive an event condition from the end user, wherein the event condition is based on the status of the resource; and generate an event if the event condition is satisfied.
