Abstract
Implants are described herein which contain an activated adhesive on at least a portion of the surface of the implant. A release sheet may be positioned over at least a portion of the adhesive. Packages which contain the implants and methods of preparing the implants are also described.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An implant comprising:
an activated adhesive positioned on at least a portion of a surface of said implant and a release sheet overlying at least a portion of said adhesive to inhibit contact of said adhesive.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the implant is selected from the group consisting of surgical meshes, suture anchors, slings, pins, screws, drug delivery devices, adhesion barriers, patches, clips, pledgets, and combinations thereof.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the implant is a surgical mesh.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the activated adhesive is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, isocyanates and combinations thereof.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the activated adhesive penetrates into the implant
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the release sheet comprises a bioabsorbable material.
. The implant of claim 6 wherein the release sheet is selected from the group consisting of polylactide, polyglycolide, polycaprolactone, polydioxanone and combinations thereof.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the release sheet comprises a non-bioabsorbable material.
. The implant of claim 8 wherein the release sheet comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, metalized polymer films, and combinations thereof.
. The implant of claim 1 wherein the release sheet comprises a dissolvable material.
. The implant of claim 10 wherein the dissolvable material is selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacrylic acid, carboxymethylcellulose, alginate, hyaluronic acid, dextran, polysaccharides, gelatin, and combinations thereof.
. A package containing an implant comprising:
an activated adhesive positioned on at least a portion of a surface of the implant, the package including an internal surface, overlying at least a portion of said activated adhesive when said package is closed, wherein at least a portion of said internal surface is a release sheet.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the implant is selected from the group consisting of surgical mesh, suture anchors, slings, pins, screws, drug delivery devices, adhesion barriers, patches, clips, pledgets, and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the implant is a surgical mesh.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the activated adhesive is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, isocyanates and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the activated adhesive penetrates into the implant.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the release sheet comprises a bioabsorbable material.
. The package of claim 17 wherein the release sheet is selected from the group consisting of polylactide, polyglycolide, polycaprolactone, polydioxanone and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 12 wherein the release sheet comprises a non-bioabsorbable material.
. The package of claim 19 wherein the release sheet comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, metalized polymer films, and combinations thereof.
. The implant of claim 12 wherein the release sheet comprises a dissolvable material.
. The implant of claim 21 wherein the dissolvable material is selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacrylic acid, carboxymethylcellulose, alginate, hyaluronic acid, dextran, polysaccharides, gelatin, and combinations thereof.
. A package for containing an implant, said package comprising:
a first cavity containing a medical adhesive; a second cavity positioned adjacent said first cavity and configured to contain an implant and a rupturable barrier positioned between said first and second cavity wherein, upon rupture of said rupturable barrier, said adhesive can communicate with at least a portion of said second cavity.
. The package of claim 23 wherein the implant is selected from the group consisting of surgical mesh, suture anchors, slings, pins, screws, drug delivery devices, adhesion barriers, patches, clips, pledgets, and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 23 wherein the implant is a surgical mesh.
. The package of claim 23 wherein the medical adhesive is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, isocyanates and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 23 wherein the medical adhesive is a polyurethane.
. The package of claim 23 wherein the rupturable barrier is formed from at least a portion of the packaging materials.
. A dispenser for activating packaged implants, said packaged implants having a first cavity containing a medical adhesive, a second cavity configured to contain a medical implant and a rupturable barrier therebetween, said packaged implants being activated by the rupture of said rupturable barrier said dispenser comprising:
a compartment for containing said packaged implant, said compartment including a dispensing opening and structure for rupturing said rupturable barrier.
. The package of claim 29 wherein the implant is selected from the group consisting of surgical mesh, suture anchors, slings, pins, screws, drug delivery devices, adhesion barriers, patches, clips, pledgets, and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 29 wherein the implant is a surgical mesh.
. The package of claim 29 wherein the medical adhesive is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, isocyanates and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 29 further comprising a structure for applying the medical adhesive to at least apportion of the implant.
. The package of claim 33 wherein the structure for applying the medical adhesive is selected from the group consisting of wipers, rollers, brushes and combinations thereof.
. The package of claim 34 wherein the structure for applying the medical adhesive is a roller.
. A method for preparing a self-adherent implant comprising the steps of: applying an activated adhesive on at least a portion of the implant; and overlying at least a portion of the activated adhesive with a release sheet.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
