Abstract

A cosmetic composition intended for protecting skin against stress generating free radicals or reactive oxygen species is disclosed. The cosmetic composition comprises a physiologically compatible excipient and a thiazolidine compound. Methods of protecting skin generally and against cutaneous consequences of oxidative stress are also disclosed.

1 . A cosmetic composition intended for protecting skin against stress generating free radicals or reactive oxygen species comprising a physiologically compatible excipient and a compound of formula (I): 
     
       
         
         
             
             
         
       
     
     in which X is oxygen or sulphur. 
   
   
       2 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 1 , wherein X is oxygen. 
   
   
       3 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the compound is present between 0.01 and 10% in weight in relation to total weight of the composition. 
   
   
       4 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 3 , wherein the quantity of said derivative of formula (I) is between 0.05 and 5% in weight in relation to total weight of the composition. 
   
   
       5 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising an agent chosen from the group consisting of antioxidant, antiradical and anti-pollution agents. 
   
   
       6 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 5 , wherein the agent is chosen from the group consisting of vitamins, enzymes, and phenolic compounds. 
   
   
       7 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising one or more agent selected from the group consisting of organic UV-A sunscreen, organic UV-B sunscreen, inorganic UV-A sunscreen, inorganic UV-B sunscreen, and a cosmetic active ingredient with a secondary effect. 
   
   
       8 . The cosmetic composition according to  claim 1 , in the form of an emulsion, cream, milk, gel, or lotion. 
   
   
       9 . A method of protecting skin against stress generating free radicals or reactive oxygen species comprising administering to skin a cosmetic composition including a physiologically compatible excipient and a compound of formula (I). 
     
       
         
         
             
             
         
       
     
     in which X is oxygen or sulphur. 
   
   
       10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the step of administering is done in response to exposure to ultraviolet radiation, atmospheric pollution, contact with chemical xenobiotics or smoky atmospheres. 
   
   
       11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the exposure is ultraviolet radiation. 
   
   
       12 . A method of fighting against oxidative stress of skin and its consequences, comprising applying on skin a composition comprising a physiologically compatible skin excipient and a compound of formula (I): 
     
       
         
         
             
             
         
       
     
     in which X is oxygen or sulphur. 
   
   
       13 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising orally administering an antioxidant substance. 
   
   
       14 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 7 , wherein the cosmetic active ingredient with a secondary effect is one or more agent selected from the group consisting of a moisturizing agent, a smoothing agent, a pigmenting agent, and an agent stimulating the synthesis of epidermic and dermic macromolecules.
