Abstract

A crown molding and system for its use where the crown molding is formed from a specially blended plastic as extrusions to have a roughened surface and consisting of an inverted “L” bracket and a facing crown mold member for each crown molding section. The inverted “L” bracket is formed as a right angle section having right angle legs and is to be attached to a wall at points along its lower leg, with the right angle bend fitting into the wall to ceiling junction, and with the top leg end having a coupling end for connecting to a mount of a facing crown molding member. Which coupling edges are preferably mirror image corrugations that fit over and lock together, and with the facing member ends flanges to contact the wall and ceiling surfaces.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A crown molding system for a room ceiling, comprising:
a resilient bracket having an upper leg with a top surface, the upper leg positioned adjacent such room ceiling; and an outer molding comprising a curved outer face and an upper flange with a top surface and a bottom surface, wherein the outer molding comprises a ridge where the curved outer face meets the upper flange, wherein the upper flange is received above the upper leg of the bracket with the bottom surface of the upper flange engaging the top surface of the upper leg in a retaining relationship, and wherein the bracket and the outer molding contact each other only at the upper leg and the upper flange.

2 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the outer molding further comprises a flat vertical foot.

3 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the top surface of the upper leg comprises first corrugations and the bottom surface of the upper flange comprises second corrugations that engage the first corrugations.

4 . The crown molding system of claim 3 , wherein the first corrugations consist of two corrugations and the second corrugations consist of two corrugations.

5 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the outer molding contacts such room ceiling only at the ridge.

6 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the bracket and the outer molding contact each other only at the top surface of the upper leg and the bottom surface of the upper flange.

7 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , further comprising a rounded outside corner section connected to the outer molding.

8 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the curved outer face and the upper flange meet at an angle of approximately 90 degrees.

9 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the curved outer face comprises a vertical forward-facing wall at a top end of the curved outer face, and wherein the upper flange meets the vertical wall at the ridge.

10 . The crown molding system of claim 3 , wherein the ridge is adjacent the second corrugations, but on the top surface of the upper flange.

11 . The crown molding system of claim 3 , wherein the upper leg of the bracket is stepped downwardly at a right angle into an end section having the first corrugations.

12 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the curved outer face has a substantially uniform thickness.

13 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the upper flange and the curved outer face are integral.

14 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the outer molding is a plastic shell.

15 . The crown molding system of claim 1 , wherein the outer molding and the bracket are plastic.
