Pouch-type secondary battery

Abstract

A pouch-type secondary battery including: an electrode assembly having a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator disposed therebetween; and a pouch case including a first case part having a pouch to house the electrode assembly, a second case part disposed over an open end of the pouch, and sealing portions to seal the second case part to the first case part. The sealing portions include wing portions that are bent to cover opposing sides of the pouch, and bent portions that are bent from the wing portions, to cover a bottom surface of the pouch.

1 . A pouch-type secondary battery, comprising:
 an electrode assembly comprising a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate and a separator disposed between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate; and   a pouch case comprising, a pouch having a bottom and opposing sides, to house the electrode assembly, a first cover disposed upon the opposing sides of the pouch, and sealing portions to seal the first cover to the pouch,   wherein the sealing portions comprise wing portions that are folded toward the pouch, so as to cover the opposing sides of the pouch, and bent portions that are folded from the wing portions, so as to partially cover the bottom of the pouch.   
     
     
         2 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein ends of the bent portions face one another, across the bottom of the pouch. 
     
     
         3 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the bent portions are folded from the wing portions at a substantially right angle (90°). 
     
     
         4 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the folds between the wing portions and the bent portions are separated from edges of the pouch, which separate the opposing sides of the pouch from the bottom of the pouch. 
     
     
         5 . The battery according to  claim 4 , wherein the folds are rounded. 
     
     
         6 . The battery according to  claim 4 , wherein the folds between the wing portions and the bent portions have smaller radii of curvature than the edges of the pouch. 
     
     
         7 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the folds between the wing portions and the bent portions are chamfered. 
     
     
         8 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the wing portions are rounded. 
     
     
         9 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the bent portions are corrugated. 
     
     
         10 . The battery according to  claim 1 , further comprising a second cover to cover the first cover. 
     
     
         11 . The battery of  claim 10 , where the second cover is folded to at least partially cover the wing portions. 
     
     
         12 . The battery according to  claim 1 , wherein the wing portions and the opposing sides of the pouch are rounded.
