Abstract

Methods, data structures, and systems are provided for configuring avionic equipment with profile data. Profile data is defined, stored, and/or retrieved. The profile data is used to configure one or more display fields of the avionic equipment, display units of measure, identify flight plans, define map settings, set navigation fields, define communication transceiver spacing, define data/time setup, to configure one or more timers, alarms, and/or to configure other communication, navigation, or surveillance settings associated with avionic equipment. Furthermore, instances of the profile data are associated with unique identifiers for storage and retrieval purposes.

1 . Avionic equipment, comprising:
 a display operable to present information in one or more screen field locations;   a memory operable to store pilot profile data corresponding to pilot preferences;   a user interface operable to receive an identifier associated with the stored pilot profile data; and   a processor coupled with the display, the memory, and the user interface, the processor operable to—
 retrieve the pilot profile data stored within the memory using the acquired identifier, and 
 configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to display avionic information in desired screen field locations as defined in the pilot profile data. 
   
   
   
       2 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is further operable to control the display to present the pilot preferences defined within the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       3 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the user interface is operable to receive the identifier from a portable electronic device. 
   
   
       4 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the user interface is operable to receive the identifier from a pilot login. 
   
   
       5 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the memory is removable from the processor. 
   
   
       6 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is further operable to configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to present a map view according to the preferences defined within the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       7 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is further operable to configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to present a map range according to the preferences defined within the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       8 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is further operable to configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to present a text size according to the preferences defined within the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       9 . The avionic equipment of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is further operable to configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to present a display mode according to the preferences defined within the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       10 . Avionic equipment, comprising:
 a memory operable to store pilot profile data corresponding to pilot preferences;   a user interface operable to receive an identifier associated with the stored pilot profile data; and   a processor coupled with the memory and the user interface, the processor operable to—
 retrieve the pilot profile data stored within the memory using the acquired identifier, and 
 present an avionic configuration using the retrieved pilot profile data to provide functionality as defined in the pilot profile data. 
   
   
   
       11 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the user interface is operable to receive the identifier from a portable electronic device. 
   
   
       12 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the user interface is operable to receive the identifier from a pilot login. 
   
   
       13 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the memory is removable from the processor. 
   
   
       14 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the presented avionic configuration is a display configuration defined by the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       15 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the presented avionic configuration is a transceiver communication configuration defined by the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       16 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the presented avionic configuration is a navigation configuration defined by the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       17 . The avionic equipment of  claim 10 , wherein the presented avionic configuration is a surveillance configuration defined by the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       18 . Avionic equipment, comprising:
 a display operable to present information in one or more screen field locations;   a memory operable to store pilot profile data corresponding to pilot preferences;   a user interface operable to receive an identifier associated with the stored pilot profile data; and   a processor coupled with the display, the memory, and the user interface, the processor operable to—
 retrieve the pilot profile data stored within the memory using the acquired identifier, 
 configure the display using the retrieved pilot profile data to display avionic information in desired screen field locations as defined in the pilot profile data, and 
 present a navigation configuration using the retrieved pilot profile data to provide functionality as defined in the pilot profile data. 
   
   
   
       19 . The avionic equipment of  claim 18 , wherein the processor is further operable to present a transceiver communication configuration defined by the pilot profile data. 
   
   
       20 . The avionic equipment of  claim 18 , wherein the processor is further operable to present a surveillance configuration defined by the pilot profile data.
