Firearm

Abstract

A firearm including a bolt for securing a barrel such that the barrel attaches to a receiver with increased repeatability at the same location. The bolt included a tapered end and may also include a threaded section. The receiver comprises a barrel attachment feature which allows the bolt to pass through and can also include threads for engaging the bolt. The barrel comprises a beveled recess for engaging the tapered end of the bolt. The angle of the tapered end and the beveled recess are approximately reciprocal. The bolt passes through the receiver and its tapered end engages the beveled recess to secure the barrel to the receiver.

1 . A firearm comprising:
 a barrel comprising a beveled barrel retention recess;   a receiver comprising a barrel attachment feature; and   a barrel attachment device having a tapered end, wherein the angle of the tapered end is about the reciprocal of the angle of the beveled barrel retention recess, wherein a portion of the barrel attachment device is disposed in the barrel attachment feature so that the tapered end engages the beveled barrel retention recess to attach the barrel to the receiver.   
     
     
         2 . The firearm in  claim 1  wherein the angle of the bevel barrel retention recess ranges from about 170 degrees to about 10 degrees. 
     
     
         3 . The firearm in  claim 1  wherein the angle of the bevel barrel retention recess ranges from about 120 degrees to about 40 degrees. 
     
     
         4 . The firearm in  claim 1  wherein the angle of the bevel barrel retention recess ranges from about 90 degrees to about 60 degrees. 
     
     
         5 . The firearm of  claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises a passageway to receive the barrel, the passageway comprising a substantially cylindrical engaging member to engage and support the barrel. 
     
     
         6 . The firearm of  claim 1 , wherein the barrel attachment device comprises a threaded bolt and the barrel attachment feature comprises a threaded hole to engage the threaded bolt. 
     
     
         7 . A firearm, comprising:
 a barrel attachment device having a tapered end;   a receiver including a barrel attachment feature for receiving the barrel attachment device and allowing the barrel attachment device to extend through the barrel attachment feature; and   a barrel including a beveled barrel retention recess to receive the barrel attachment device and engage the tapered end.   
     
     
         8 . The firearm of  claim 7 , wherein an angle of the tapered end is about the reciprocal of an angle of the beveled barrel retention recess. 
     
     
         9 . A firearm, comprising:
 a barrel attachment device having a tapered end;   a receiver including a barrel attachment feature for receiving the barrel attachment device and allowing the barrel attachment device to extend through the barrel attachment feature;   a barrel; and   a barrel extension coupled to the barrel and including a beveled barrel retention recess to receive the barrel attachment device and engage the tapered end.   
     
     
         10 . The firearm of  claim 9 , wherein an angle of the tapered end is about the reciprocal of an angle of the beveled barrel retention recess. 
     
     
         11 . The firearm of  claim 9 , wherein the receiver comprises a passageway to receive the barrel, the passageway comprising a substantially cylindrical engaging member to engage and support the barrel. 
     
     
         12 . The firearm of  claim 9 , wherein the barrel attachment device comprises a threaded bolt and the barrel attachment feature comprises a threaded hole to engage the threaded bolt. 
     
     
         13 . A firearm comprising:
 a barrel;   a receiver; and   a means for securing the barrel to the receiver.   
     
     
         14 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the barrel comprises a barrel extension. 
     
     
         15 . The firearm of  claim 14  wherein the barrel further comprises a beveled barrel retention recess disposed within the barrel extension. 
     
     
         16 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the receiver comprises a barrel attachment feature. 
     
     
         17 . The firearm of  claim 16  wherein the barrel attachment feature comprises a threaded hole. 
     
     
         18 . The firearm of  claim 17  wherein the means for securing the barrel to the receiver comprises threads configured to engage the threaded hole.
