Abstract

In accordance with a specific aspect of the present disclosure, a compressed video stream, such as an MPEG-2 video stream, is received by a transport demultiplexor, synchronized, parsed into separate packet types, and written to buffer locations external the demultiplexor. In addition, primary elementary stream data can be handled by separate primary elementary stream parsers based upon the packet identifier of the primary elementary stream. Video packets can be parsed based upon stream identifier values. Specific packets of data are stored in one or more system memory or video memory buffers by an output controller based upon allocation table information. Private data associated with specific elementary streams or packet adaptation fields are repacketized and written to an output buffer location.

21 . A system for parsing section data associated with a transport packet of a packetized elementary stream, the system comprising:
a data bus having a predetermined number of nodes for transmitting a plurality of data words; a section parser including:
 a first storage location having an output, the first storage location to store a first value representing a valid data word having a first section field;
a second storage location for storing a second value representing a comparable section field; and
a first section field filter for analyzing the first value with respect to the second value.

22 . The system as in claim 21 , further comprising:
a transport packet parser comprising a first output to enable the section parser when a value on the data bus indicates the section parser is to be enabled.

23 . The system as in claim 22 , further comprising:
an adaptation field parser comprising an enable input to receive a signal from the transport packet parser, the enable input to enable the adaptation field parser when another value on the data bus indicates the adaptation field parser is to be enabled.

24 . The system as in claim 23 , wherein the transport packet parser is configured to enable the adaptation field parser in response to an adaptation field control portion of a transport packet header indicating the presence of an adaptation field.

25 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the output of the first storage location in the section parser is coupled to a host system for further processing of the first value.

26 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the first section field includes at least one of a table ID, a section syntax indicator, a version number, a current/next indicator, a section number, and a section payload.

27 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the section parser includes a second section field filter coupled to the first section field filter.

28 . The system as in claim 27 , wherein the section parser includes control registers capable of being set to enable the first and the second filters independent of each other.

29 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the section fields are associated with packetized stream table data.

30 . The system as in claim 29 , wherein the packetized stream table data is associated with Program Specific Information (PSI) Tables including at least one of a Program Association Table (PAT), a Program Map Table (PMT), a Network Information Table (NIT), and a Conditional Access Table (CAT).

31 . The system as in claim 29 , wherein the packetized stream table data is associated with system Information (SI) Tables.

32 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the first section field includes a version number, and wherein the section parser is selectively configurable to parse only packets with a designated version number.

33 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the first section field includes a section number, and wherein the section parser is configured to determine whether to pass the section data to a host system or discard the packet based on an output of the first section field filter.

34 . The system as in claim 21 , wherein the first section field includes a section payload, and wherein the section parser is configured to determine whether to pass the section data to a host system or discard the packet based on an output of the first section field filter.

         35 . A method comprising:
identifying a transport packet as being a section packet; comparing the value of a first field in the section packet to a value of a first field register to determine a first outcome; and determining whether to enable the section packet to be received by a host system or to discard the section packet, based upon the first outcome.

36 . The method as in claim 35 , where the value of the first field is associated with a version number.

37 . The method as in claim 35 , wherein the value of the first field is associated with a section number.

38 . The method as in claim 35 , wherein the value of the first field is associated with a section payload.

39 . The method as in claim 35 , wherein comparing the value of the first field to the value of the first field register includes determining if the values are equivalent.
