Abstract
Various pathophysiological states are determined by evaluating the rate of 17 O-containing water production oxygen using proton MRI. The method can be used to identify viable but threatened myocardium, injured by viable muscle, penumbra tissue in a stroke patient, and the like.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 14 . (canceled)
15 . A method of identifying abnormalities in tissue of a patient, the method comprising:
administering 17 O 2 to the patient; and identifying tissue under oxidative stress, said identifying comprising comparing an oxygen extraction fraction of a first zone in a first tissue zone to the oxygen extraction fraction in a second tissue zone using a proton magnetic resonance imaging system.
16 . The method of claim 15 wherein the 17 O 2 is dissolved in a liquid carrier and is administered to the patient intravenously.
17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the second tissue zone is located in tissue that is ischemic and the first tissue zone is located in tissue that is not ischemic.
18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the first tissue zone and the second tissue zone are located in tissue that is ischemic.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
