Lubricating Compositions Containing Sulphonates
Abstract
A lubricating composition containing (a) a detergent package containing (i) an oligomeric reaction product of (1) a hydrocarbyl-substituted phenol; (2) an aldehyde; and (3) a carboxyl-substituted phenol or a carboxyl-substituted phenylamine; and salts of the reaction product; (ii) a sulphonate; and (iii) optionally a phenate; (b) a dispersant; and (c) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the sulphonate detergent is overbased with a metal ratio of about 12.5:1 to about 40:1. The composition is suitable for internal combustion engines, particularly marine diesel applications to provide improved cleanliness properties, antiwear performance or deposit control.
