Abstract

A method for correcting audible caller identification information in a telecommunication system is disclosed. The method includes receiving caller identification information for a caller, playing a current pronunciation of the audible caller identification information, prompting the caller to provide a pronunciation change indication, receiving a new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information in response to the pronunciation change indication, verifying the new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information with the caller, and storing information relating to the new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information.

1 . A method for correcting audible caller identification information in a telecommunication system, the method comprising:
 receiving caller identification information for a caller playing a current pronunciation of the audible caller identification information;   prompting the caller to provide a pronunciation change indication;   receiving a new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information in response to the pronunciation change indication;   verifying the new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information with the caller; and   storing information relating to the new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein receiving a new spoken pronunciation of the audible caller identification information further comprises updating the current pronunciation of the audible caller identification information with the information defining the new spoken pronunciation. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  further comprising:
 communicating the updated current pronunciation of the audible caller identification information throughout the telecommunication system for use in any subsequent calls.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein receiving caller identification information further comprises:
 receiving a call placed by the caller to a verification number; and   providing a series of menu options for correcting the audible caller identification information.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein receiving the call placed by the caller to the verification number further comprises receiving a call placed to a toll free number dialed specifically for the purpose of verifying the audible caller identification information. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein receiving caller identification information further comprises:
 providing multimedia menu options over the Internet to the caller, wherein the multimedia menu options provide for correcting the audible caller identification information.   
     
     
         7 . A method for correcting audible caller identification information in a telecommunication system, the method comprising:
 providing a current pronunciation of the audible caller identification information for the caller, wherein the current pronunciation represents to a text to speech input file;   prompting the caller to provide a pronunciation change indication;   receiving a new spoken pronunciation from the caller in connection with the pronunciation change indication;   recording the new spoken pronunciation; and   storing the new spoken pronunciation as a text to speech exception file.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7  further comprising:
 communicating the text to speech exception file throughout the telecommunication system for use in any subsequent calls.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 7  further comprising:
 receiving a call placed by the caller to a verification number; and   providing a series of menu options for correcting the audible caller identification information.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein receiving the call placed by the caller to the verification number further comprises receiving a call placed to a toll free number dialed specifically for the purpose of verifying the audible caller identification information. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein providing a series of menu options comprises further comprises providing multimedia menu options over the Internet to the caller, wherein the multimedia menu options provide for correcting the audible caller identification information.
