Methods for stimulating or inducing the growth and/or reducing the loss of keratinous fibers

Abstract

The invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing at least one 15-hydroxy-prostaglandin dehydrogenase inhibitor and cosmetically acceptable excipients. It also relates to a method of cosmetic treatment for promoting the growth and/or preventing or delaying the loss of hair, and the use of a 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase inhibitor for the preparation of a composition intended for controlling hair loss and/or for promoting hair regrowth.

1 . A method for stimulating or inducing the growth and/or reducing the loss and/or increasing the density and/or reducing the heterogeneity of the diameter of keratinous fibers in a human being in need of same, said method comprising administering an effective amount at least one 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH) inhibitor, or an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH) inhibitor and a cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable medium, to said human being, wherein the 15-PGDH inhibitor is an inhibitor specific for 15-PGDH and wherein the ratio between the 15-PGDH inhibiting activity and the prostaglandin F synthase (PGF synthase) inhibiting activity is greater than 1. 
     
     
         2 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein said at least one 15-PGDH inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of:

         3 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the keratinous fibers are selected from the group consisting of head hair, body hair and eyelashes. 
     
     
         4 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein said at least one 15-PGDH inhibitor or composition is applied topically. 
     
     
         5 . A method according to  claim 3 , wherein said at least one 15-PGDH inhibitor or composition is applied topically. 
     
     
         6 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is a pharmaceutical composition and is administered orally. 
     
     
         7 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is a cosmetic or dermatological composition and is applied topically. 
     
     
         8 . A method according to  claim 7 , wherein the composition is applied to the scalp. 
     
     
         9 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein a composition is administered in which the 15-PGDH inhibitor is present at a concentration ranging from 10 −3 % to 5% relative to the total weight of the composition. 
     
     
         10 . A method of cosmetic treatment for maintaining and/or increasing the density of keratinous fibers and/or inhibiting and/or reducing and/or delaying the loss of keratinous fibers in a human being in need of such treatment, said method comprising administering at least one 15 hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH) inhibitor to said human being, wherein the 15-PGDH inhibitor is an inhibitor specific for 15-PGDH and wherein the ratio between the 15-PGDH inhibiting activity and the prostaglandin F synthase (PGF synthase) inhibiting activity is greater than 1. 
     
     
         11 . A method according to  claim 10 , wherein said at least one 15-PGDH inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of:

         13 . A method of cosmetic treatment according to  claim 10 , wherein the 15-PGDH inhibitor or a composition comprising it is administered orally. 
     
     
         14 . A method of cosmetic treatment according to  claim 10 , wherein the 15-PGDH inhibitor or a composition comprising it is applied topically, to the hair and/or the scalp and/or the eyelashes.
