Method and apparatus for recording and reproducing video data, and information storage medium in which video data is recorded by the same

Abstract

A method of recording and reproducing video data is provided. The method of recording video data in an information storage medium includes the steps of (a) decoding originally encoded video data, (b) re-encoding the decoded video data in a different way to the originally encoded video data, (c) generating video transform information which is to be referred to for decoding the video data into its original state, and (d) recording the generated video transform information and the re-encoded video data in the information storage medium. Accordingly, the video data can be properly reproduced even if it is re-encoded in a different way to the originally encoded video data.

1 . A computer readable information storage medium, for use with a recording apparatus to record information onto the computer readable information storage medium, the computer readable information storage medium comprising:
 second video data which has been encoded by transforming a data format of first video data by the recording apparatus; and   video transform information comprising resolution information and aspect ratio information of the first video data.   
   
   
       2 . The medium of  claim 1 , wherein the video transform information is included in a program map table (PMT) packet. 
   
   
       3 . An apparatus to receive an input bitstream and to record the input bitstream in an information storage medium, the apparatus comprising:
 a receiver to receive first video data from the input bitstream; and   a recorder to:
 generate second video data by encoding and transforming a data format of the first video data, 
 generate video transform information for the first video data, and 
 record the second video data and the video transform information on the information storage medium, wherein the video transform information comprises resolution information and aspect ratio information. 
   
   
   
       4 . The apparatus of  claim 3 , wherein the video transform information is included in a program map table (PMT) packet.
