Abstract

An assembly for the primary fastening of a bicycle or other wheeled vehicle wheel to wheel mount(s), as is commonly done by a cam operated quick release, incorporating a uniquely formed drawbar and a rotation handle wherein primary fastening is accomplished by simple rotation of the rotation handle about the drawbar axis.

A drawbar and assembly for fixing a wheel to wheel mounts used in connection with a hollow wheel axle wherein a first end of said drawbar is threaded for mounting a threaded member that is rotatable to thread along said drawbar by hand when the wheel is mounted in the wheel mounts and, a non-threaded integral drawbar member integrally formed on the second end of said drawbar, wherein primary locking of the wheel to the wheel mounts is accomplished by the relative rotation of said threaded member to said drawbar. 
   
   
       2 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 1  wherein said integral drawbar member comprises means to mount a handle in a manner which does not allow the handle to rotate relative to the drawbar about the drawbar axis. 
   
   
       3 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said handle is fixed from all relative movement between the drawbar and the handle. 
   
   
       4 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said handle is articulating and is able to rotate in a direction other than about the axis of the drawbar. 
   
   
       5 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said integral drawbar member is generally round. 
   
   
       6 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said integral drawbar member is not symmetrical about all planes through the drawbar axis. 
   
   
       7 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said integral drawbar member further comprises a perforating hole at a generally right angle to said drawbar axis. 
   
   
       8 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 7  wherein said handle is mounted in said perforating hole. 
   
   
       9 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 7  wherein said handle is mounted on a shank which is mounted in said perforating hole. 
   
   
       10 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 8  further comprising a housing which incorporates a perforating hole through which said handle is mounted. 
   
   
       11 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 9  further comprising a housing which incorporates a perforating hole through which said shank projects. 
   
   
       12 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 4  wherein said handle further comprises means to resist but not prevent articulating rotation. 
   
   
       13 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein said integral drawbar member applies binding pressure on an adjacent wheel mount. 
   
   
       14 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 2  wherein a member attached to said integral drawbar member applies binding pressure on an adjacent wheel mount. 
   
   
       15 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 1  wherein said integral drawbar member comprises means to mount a handle in a manner which, in one state, does not allow the handle to rotate about the drawbar axis, and in a second state, allows the handle to rotate about the drawbar axis. 
   
   
       16 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 1  wherein said threaded member consists of a handle used to rotationally lock the wheel to the wheel mounts.

A drawbar and assembly of  claim 1  wherein said threaded member further comprises means to fasten a handle such that said threaded member and said handle are fixed from rotation relative to one another about the drawbar axis, but are not fixed from relative movement about other axis′. 
   
   
       18 . A drawbar and assembly of  claim 1  wherein said threaded member further comprises means to fasten a handle such that said threaded member and said handle are fixed from relative movement to each other.

A threaded member used to fasten a wheel to wheel mounts comprised of a first inner member threaded for mounting on a threaded rod, and a second outer member wherein said threaded member further includes a recessed area to cover a separate retaining member residing outboard of said threaded member on said threaded rod. 
   
   
       27 . A threaded member of  claim 26  further comprising a shaped area for gripping and turning said threaded member by hand. 
   
   
       28 . A threaded member of  claim 26  further comprising a handle or lever for turning said threaded member by hand. 
   
   
       29 . A threaded member of  claim 26  further comprising a rotation resistant system which resists rotation about said threaded rod. 
   
   
       30 . A threaded member of  claim 29  wherein said rotation resistant system is part of said outer member.

A threaded member used to fasten a wheel to wheel mounts by threading along a threaded rod, comprising a rotation resistant system which resists rotation about said threaded rod and a recessed area to cover a separate retaining member residing outboard of said threaded member on said threaded rod.
