Abstract

A process for preparing tolterodine with high purity.

         1 . Tolterodine or a salt thereof, containing no greater than about 0.15 area-%, as determined by high performance liquid chromatography, of any of the impurities: 
       a) bis[3-(2-benzyloxy-5-methyl-phenyl)-3-phenyl-propyl]-isopropylamine; 
       b) 2-(3-{[3-(2-benzyloxy-5-methyl-phenyl)-3-phenyl-propyl]-isopropyl-amino}-1-phenyl-propyl)-4-methylphenol; and 
       c) [3-(2-Benzyloxy-5-methyl-phenyl)-3-phenyl-propyl]-isopropylamine. 
     
     
         2 . The tolterodine or salt of  claim 1 , containing no greater than about 0.05 area-% of any of the impurities a), b), and c).
