Abstract

A bamboo indoor/outdoor area rug that is manufactured from 100% Anji Mountain bamboo from China. The bamboo is all treated with various protective coatings to add resistance to natural factors including water, sun and dirt. All bamboo rugs manufactured for indoor/outdoor use are made from the harder portions of the bamboo trunk. (Some bamboo used for indoor purposes only are manufactured from the softer fibers of the inside of the bamboo trunk). This portion of the bamboo trunk is not utilized for this invention. The bamboo utilized in the present invention is taken from the harder part of the bamboo trunk to assure maximum endurance and longevity. The lower trunk portion of the bamboo plant is harder and less porous.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An outdoor/indoor rug fabricated from mature kiln dried bamboo slats formed into a layer, a plurality of said elongated flat bamboo slats arranged lengthwise and side by side and each slat connected in a substantially abutting relationship with respect to an adjacent slat, said bamboo slat layer bonded to an underlayment of vented PVC pad for creating a means to displace moisture and increase air flow through the rug in aiding to resist mold and mildew, said rug having a fibrous material border folded about and attached around the perimeter edge of said formed rug, said fibrous material border being formed of a high density layer of polypropylene or a cotton, a PVC layer bonded to the under side of said underlayment, thereby forming a rug of bamboo slats that have been kiln dried, oxidized in a boiling vat of liquid, and which slats are less porous to moisture and resistant to rot, mildew and decay during prolonged usage.

2 . The indoor/outdoor rug of claim 1 wherein the bamboo slats are kiln dried to approximately a 10% moisture content or less, and placed in a drying room for extended time to further control the moisture content of said bamboo slats.

3 . The indoor/outdoor rug of claim 2 wherein said bamboo slats are placed in a boiling vat of water to achieve carbonization and their fumigation.

4 . The indoor/outdoor rug of claim 1 wherein said bamboo slats are manufactured from fully mature bamboo trees of at least five years of age.

5 . The indoor/outdoor rug of claim 1 and including a layer of resin bonding the PVC pad to the underside of the bamboo slats and the high density layer of polypropylene.

6 . The indoor/outdoor rug of claim 5 and including a natural fiber layer of matted jute bonded under and to the resin material layer and the high density layer of polypropylene.
