Abstract

An identification labeling system having a faceplate with a recess and a label cover that may be retained within the recess. The label cover may have compartments for retaining identification labels. The label cover has latching legs and the recess has a complementary retention ledge. A lift slot may be provided to facilitate removal of the label cover. The recess may contain holes to accommodate individual molded identification icons. The recess may include tapered corners to accommodate strip labels of different widths and lengths, such labels being positioned by the tapered corners of the recess and the label cover. The recess includes end configurations that prevent a label from passing through the surface of the faceplate. The label cover has a thickness so as to be flush with the faceplate. The label may be the same color as the faceplate.

Claims

2 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 wherein portions of the side walls contact the back wall to prevent a label from sliding behind the back wall.

3 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 wherein the first and second pairs of parallel spaced apart edges are perpendicular to each other.

4 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 wherein the front surface, the back wall and the side walls are unitarily formed.

5 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 wherein the chamfered corners and the first and second pairs of parallel spaced apart edges are configured to accept a first label having a first size, and a second label having a second size different than the first size.

       6 . The label-receiving member of claim 5 wherein:
the first size is defined by a first distance equal to a dimension between the first pair of parallel spaced apart edges, and a second distance less than a dimension between the second pair of parallel spaced apart edges; and the second size is defined by a third distance equal to the dimension between the second pair of parallel spaced apart edges, and a fourth distance less than the dimension between the first pair of parallel spaced apart edges.

7 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 further comprising retention ledges for holding a label cover between the side walls.

8 . The label-receiving member of claim 1 further comprising an aperture in the back wall for accommodating an identification icon element with a retention latch that is releasably insertable in the aperture.

       9 . A label-receiving member of a faceplate having a front surface, the label-receiving member comprising:
a plurality of interconnected side walls extending into the faceplate a predetermined depth from the front surface, the plurality of interconnected side walls having outer edges connected with the front surface, and inner edges; a back wall connected with the inner edges of the plurality of interconnected side walls at the predetermined depth, the back wall having a polylinear outline generally defined by the plurality of interconnected side walls, the back wall configured to receive a first label having a first size and a second label having a second size different than the first size.

10 . The label-receiving member of claim 9 wherein the front surface, the back wall and the plurality of interconnected side walls are unitarily formed.

11 . The label-receiving member of claim 9 wherein the plurality of interconnected side walls comprises:
a first pair of parallel spaced apart side walls; a second pair of parallel spaced apart side walls extending between the first pair of parallel spaced apart side walls; and chamfered corner side walls connecting ends of the first pair of parallel spaced apart side walls with ends of the second pair of parallel spaced apart side walls.

12 . The label-receiving member of claim 11 wherein the first and second pairs of parallel spaced apart side walls are perpendicular to each other.

       13 . The label-receiving member of claim 12 wherein:
the first size is defined by a first distance equal to a dimension between the first pair of parallel spaced apart side walls, and a second distance less than a dimension between the second pair of parallel spaced apart edges; and the second size is defined by a third distance equal to the dimension between the second pair of parallel spaced apart edges, and a fourth distance less than the dimension between the first pair of parallel spaced apart edges.

14 . The label-receiving member of claim 9 further comprising retention ledges for holding a label cover between the plurality of interconnected side walls, the label cover having a complementary shape to the polylinear outline of the back wall.

15 . The label-receiving member of claim 9 further comprising an aperture in the back wall for accommodating an identification icon element with a retention latch that is releasably insertable in the aperture.
