Abstract

A well completion assembly including apparatus for gravel packing and cementing in a single trip. An outer assembly comprises: a liner and screen; a valved gravel packing port; upper and lower valved cementing ports; and seal bores positioned below and above the gravel packing port and above and below the lower cementing port. An inner assembly includes: a crossover having an outer seal body and shifters to allow opening and closing of valves in the gravel packing and cementing ports. In one position, the crossover seal body mates with seal bores below and above the gravel packing port to allow flow of gravel packing slurry through the gravel packing port. In a second position, the crossover seal body mates with seal bores below and above the lower cementing port to allow flow of cement through the lower cementing port.

1 . A method for gravel packing and cementing a well in a single trip, comprising: 
 running into the well a work string comprising gravel packing equipment and cementing equipment;    gravel packing the well;    repositioning at least a portion of the work string in the well to activate the cementing equipment; and    cementing the well without removing the work string from the well between cementing and gravel packing.    
   
   
       2 . The method of  claim 1 , further including 
 setting an outer assembly portion of the work string in the well, wherein repositioning the portion of the work string in the well to activate the cementing equipment includes repositioning an inner assembly portion of the work string with respect to the outer assembly portion of the work string.    
   
   
       3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the outer assembly portion of the work string includes a first packer and a second packer, and setting the outer assembly portion of the work string includes engaging the first packer to form sealing contact with the well and engaging the second packer to form sealing contact with the well.  
   
   
       4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising repositioning at least a portion of the work string in the well to activate the gravel packing equipment.  
   
   
       5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising, after gravel packing the well and cementing the well, removing at least a portion of the work string from the well.  
   
   
       6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein gravel packing occurs before cementing.  
   
   
       7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein cementing occurs before gravel packing.  
   
   
       8 . A method for single trip completion of a well in an open hole, comprising: 
 performing a gravel packing operation in the well using a work string,    after the gravel packing operation, activating a cementing functionality of at least a portion of the work string, and    performing a cementing operation in the well using the work string.    
   
   
       9 . A method for single trip completion of a well in an open hole, comprising: 
 running a work string into the well,    using the work string to perform a gravel packing operation,    repositioning at least a portion of the work string to activate a cementing functionality of the work string, and    using the work string to perform a cementing operation without removing the work string from the well between gravel packing and cementing.    
   
   
       10 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising: 
 after performing the cementing operation, removing at least a portion of the work string from the well.    
   
   
       11 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising running a screen into the well coupled to the work string.  
   
   
       12 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the well comprises an upper cased portion and a lower uncased portion, further comprising: 
 coupling a screen assembly comprising a screen coupled to a length of blank pipe to the work string,    positioning the screen assembly in the uncased portion of the well, with the blank pipe extending from the screen to the cased portion of the well, gravel packing an annulus between the screen and the well, and    cementing an annulus between the blank pipe and the well.    
   
   
       13 . Apparatus for one trip gravel packing and cementing of a well, comprising: 
 gravel packing equipment carried on a work string, cementing equipment carried on the work string,    the gravel packing equipment and cementing equipment selectively operable in response to positioning of the work string in the well without removal of the work string from the well.    
   
   
       14 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the gravel packing equipment comprises an inner assembly and an outer assembly, the inner assembly and outer assembly movable with respect to each other to a position at which the gravel packing equipment is operable to perform a gravel packing operation.  
   
   
       15 . The apparatus of  claim 14 , wherein the cementing equipment comprises an inner assembly and an outer assembly, the inner assembly and outer assembly movable with respect to each other to a position at which the cementing equipment is operable to perform a cementing operation.  
   
   
       16 . The apparatus of  claim 15 , wherein the gravel packing inner assembly and the cementing inner assembly comprise one inner assembly movable to a position relative to the gravel packing outer assembly at which the gravel packing equipment is operable to perform a gravel packing operation and movable to a position relative to the cementing outer assembly at which the cementing equipment is operable to perform a cementing operation.  
   
   
       17 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the gravel packing equipment and cementing equipment are supported by the work string in a run in configuration.  
   
   
       18 . The apparatus of  claim 17 , wherein a portion of the gravel packing equipment and cementing equipment are supported by the well in a gravel packing configuration and in a cementing configuration.  
   
   
       19 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the gravel packing equipment includes a screen and a wash pipe positioned in the screen.
