Method For Treating Wound, Dressing For Use Therewith Apparatus And System for Fabricating Dressing

Abstract

A method of treating a wound using a customized dressing. In the method, at least one wound characteristic is evaluated. A treatment need as a function of the at least one wound characteristic is determined. A dressing having a dressing characteristic responsive to the treatment need is fabricated and applied to the wound. A dressing for use therewith and an apparatus and system for fabricating the dressing are provided.

       23 : A system for fabricating a wound dressing, comprising: 
 a processor configured to receive input regarding one or more dressing parameters for a dressing to be fabricated; and    a wound dressing fabrication device coupled to the processor, said fabrication device being configured to fabricate the dressing in accordance with the one or more dressing parameters.    
   
   
       24 : The system of  claim 23 , wherein: 
 the input comprises a user selection of a shape from a library of predetermined dressing shapes.    
   
   
       25 : The system of  claim 24 , wherein: 
 said library of predetermined dressing shapes comprises one or more of the following shapes: round, elliptical, triangular, rectangular, trapezoidal, rhomboidal, and narrow strip.    
   
   
       26 : The system of  claim 24 , wherein: 
 the input comprises a user selection of one or more dimensions of the selected shape.    
   
   
       27 : The system of  claim 23 , wherein: 
 the one or more dressing parameters comprises a material of the wound dressing.

 the one or more dressing parameters comprises a number of material layers in the wound dressing.

 the one or more dressing parameters comprises an absorbing capacity of the wound dressing.

 an enclosure for providing a sterile volume in which the dressing is fabricated by the wound dressing fabrication device.

 a packaging system for packing the dressing in a package after the dressing is fabricated.    
   
   
       36 : The system of  claim 35 , wherein: 
 the packaging system packs the dressing using packaging material from a roll of packaging material.
