Abstract

In the field of canine humeral osteotomy, an osteotomy plate including a proximal plate portion lying substantially in a first plane for application to the humerus. The proximal plate portion has a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, and the proximal plate portion has at least one overlapping hole formed therein. The osteotomy plate also includes a distal plate portion lying substantially in a second plane for application to the humerus. The distal plate portion has a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, and the distal plate portion has at least one overlapping hole formed therein. The osteotomy plate also includes a transition region connecting the proximal plate portion to the distal plate portion.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . In the field of canine humeral osteotomy, an osteotomy plate, comprising:
a proximal plate portion lying substantially in a first plane for application to the humerus, said proximal plate portion having a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, said proximal plate portion having at least one overlapping hole formed therein: a distal plate portion lying substantially in a second plane for application to the humerus, said distal plate portion having a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, said distal plate portion having at least one overlapping hole formed therein: and a transition region connecting said proximal plate portion to said distal plate portion.

2 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein said first plane and said second plane are substantially parallel to one-another.

3 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein said transition region is a stepped transition region which is substantially nonparallel to either of said first plane and said second plane.

4 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein said plate is manufactured of a material selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, titanium a nonreactive material, or combinations thereof.

5 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein said overlapping hole is formed normal to the top side of the plate.

6 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 , wherein said overlapping hole is formed at an angle offset from normal to the top side of the plate.

7 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 , wherein a first of the overlapping holes is formed normal to the top side of the plate and a second of the overlapping holes is formed at an angle offset from normal to the top side of the plate.

8 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein said overlapping hole defines an aperture having a threaded surface.

9 . The osteotomy plate of claim 1 wherein the overlapping hole is one of a set of overlapping holes.

10 . The osteotomy plate of claim 9 wherein the set of overlapping holes are aligned along a longitudinal axis of the plate.

11 . The osteotomy plate of claim 9 wherein the set of overlapping holes are positioned in a staggered arrangement with respect to a longitudinal axis of the plate.

12 . In the field of canine humeral osteotomy, an osteotomy plate, comprising:
a proximal plate portion lying substantially in a first plane for application to the humerus, said proximal plate portion having a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, said proximal plate portion having at least one dynamic compression hole formed therein: a distal plate portion lying substantially in a second plane for application to the humerus, said distal plate portion having a bottom surface adapted for application to the surface of the humerus, said distal plate portion having at, least one dynamic compression hole formed therein: a transition region connecting said proximal plate portion to said distal plate portion; and a round nondynamic compression hole located adjacent to said transition region and formed in one of said proximal and said distal portions.

13 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 wherein said first plane and said second plane are substantially parallel to one-another.

14 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 wherein said transition region is a stepped transition region which is substantially nonparallel to either of said first plane and said second plane.

15 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 wherein said plate is manufactured of a material selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, titanium, a nonreactive material, or combinations thereof.

16 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 wherein either one of said dynamic compression hole or said round hole is a threaded hole for engaging a bone screw having a thread configured and dimensioned to mate the thread of said threaded hole.

17 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 wherein each of said dynamic compression hole and said round hole is a threaded hole for engaging a bone screw having a thread configured and dimensioned to mate the thread of said threaded holes.

18 . The osteotomy plate of claim 12 being a part of an osteotomy system and further comprising a template for said osteotomy plate, said template comprising:
an elongate member having a first end and second end:
a first screw hole formed near said first end and a second screw hole formed near said second end, said first and said second screw holes being positioned and dimensioned to accommodate the bone screws being used with said osteotomy plate:
a gap formed near the center of said template, said gap dimensioned to accommodate the thickness of a saw blade being used to perform the osteotomy: and
flare members formed on either side of said gap, said flare members bridging said gap, so as not to impede the oscillation of a bone saw being used to perform the osteotomy.

19 . In the field of canine humeral osteotomy, a template for use with an osteotomy plate, said template comprising:
an elongate member having a first end and second end; a first screw hole formed near said first end and a second screw hole formed near said second end, said first and said second screw holes being positioned and dimensioned to accommodate the bone screws being used with the osteotomy plate: a gap formed near the center of said template, said gap dimensioned to accommodate the thickness of a saw blade being used to perform the osteotomy: and flare members formed on either side of said gap, said flare members bridging said gap, so as not to impede the oscillation of a bone saw being used to perform the osteotomy.

20 . The template of claim 19 wherein said template is manufactured of a material selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, titanium, a nonreactive material, or combinations thereof.
