Integrated circuit, method, and computer program product for recording and reproducing digital data

Abstract

An integrated circuit to control a media player/recorder having a wireless receiver, a storage device, and an output circuit, wherein the wireless receiver receives a signal representing encoded media data, and a method and computer program product for same. It comprises a processor comprising a digital signal processor, and a storage controller responsive to the digital signal processor to store the encoded media data in the storage device; a read channel responsive to the storage controller to read the encoded media data from the storage device; wherein the digital signal processor comprises a decoder to decode the retrieved encoded media data; and a digital-to-analog converter to convert the media data decoded by the decoder to an analog signal, wherein the analog signal is output to the output circuit.

1 . A media device, comprising: 
 a wireless receiver that receives a signal representing an identifier of an offered encoded media selection;    a storage device that stores a list of identifiers of desired encoded media selections and that stores the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.    
   
   
       2 . The media device of  claim 1  wherein the media device transmits a signal representing the list of the identifiers to a second media device and the second media device transmits the signal representing the identifier of the offered encoded media selection when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers in the list.  
   
   
       3 . The media device of  claim 2  wherein the media device transmits a request for the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to the one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       4 . The media device of  claim 1  wherein the wireless receiver receives a signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       5 . The media device of  claim 4  further comprising a digital signal processor that determines encoded media data from the signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       6 . The media device of  claim 5  further comprising a storage controller responsive to the digital signal processor that stores the encoded media data in the storage device.  
   
   
       7 . The media device of  claim 5  wherein the storage device stores a process for decoding the encoded media data for a selected code.  
   
   
       8 . The media device of  claim 7  wherein the digital signal processor determines a code of the encoded media data, retrieves the process for decoding the encoded media data from the storage device according to the determined code, and decodes the encoded media data in accordance with the retrieved process.  
   
   
       9 . The media device of  claim 1  further comprising a display unit that indicates a match when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       10 . The media device of  claim 9  further comprising a directional antenna that determines a direction to a transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selections, 
 wherein the display unit displays the direction.    
   
   
       11 . The media device of  claim 10  wherein the media device transmits contact information to the transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selections.  
   
   
       12 . A media device, comprising: 
 wireless receiver means for receiving a signal representing an identifier of an offered encoded media selection;    storage means for storing a list of identifiers of desired encoded media selections and for storing the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.    
   
   
       13 . The media device of  claim 12  wherein the media device transmits a signal representing the list of the identifiers to a second media device and the second media device transmits the signal representing the identifier of the offered encoded media selection when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers in the list.  
   
   
       14 . The media device of  claim 13  wherein the media device transmits a request for the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to the one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       15 . The media device of  claim 12  wherein the wireless receiver means receives a signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       16 . The media device of  claim 15  further comprising digital signal processor means for determining encoded media data from the signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       17 . The media device of  claim 16  further comprising storage controller means responsive to the digital signal processor means for storing the encoded media data in the storage device.  
   
   
       18 . The media device of  claim 16  wherein the storage means stores a process for decoding the encoded media data for a selected code.  
   
   
       19 . The media device of  claim 18  wherein the digital signal processor means determines a code of the encoded media data, retrieves the process for decoding the encoded media data from the storage means according to the determined code, and decodes the encoded media data in accordance with the retrieved process.  
   
   
       20 . The media device of  claim 12  further comprising display means for indicating a match when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       21 . The media device of  claim 20  further comprising directional antenna means for determining a direction to a transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selection, 
 wherein the display means displays the direction.    
   
   
       22 . The media device of  claim 21  wherein the media device transmits contact information to the transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       23 . A method for operating a media device, comprising: 
 receiving a signal representing an identifier of an offered encoded media selection;    storing a list of identifiers of desired encoded media selections; and    storing the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.    
   
   
       24 . The method of  claim 23  further comprising: 
 transmitting a signal representing the list of the identifiers to a second media device; and    transmitting the signal representing the identifier of the offered encoded media selection when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the identifiers in the list from the second media device to the media device.    
   
   
       25 . The method of  claim 24  further comprising transmitting a request for the offered encoded media selection when the identifier of the offered encoded media selection corresponds to the one of the identifiers of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       26 . The method of  claim 23  further comprising receiving a signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       27 . The method of  claim 26  further comprising determining encoded media data from the signal representing the offered encoded media selection.  
   
   
       28 . The method of  claim 27  further comprising storing a process for decoding the encoded media data for a selected code.  
   
   
       29 . The method of  claim 28  further comprising: 
 determining a code of the encoded media data;    retrieving the process for decoding the encoded media data according to the determined code; and    decoding the encoded media data in accordance with the retrieved process.    
   
   
       30 . The method of  claim 23  further comprising displaying a match when the offered encoded media selection corresponds to one of the desired encoded media selections.  
   
   
       31 . The method of  claim 30  further comprising: 
 determining a direction to a transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selection; and    displaying the direction.    
   
   
       32 . The method of  claim 31  further comprising transmitting contact information to the transmitter of the signal representing the offered encoded media selection.
