Methylene blue

Abstract

Composition comprising a polymerizable compound with at least one conjugated unsaturated group and methylene blue to prevent premature polymerization of the polymerizable compound. The methylene blue is present in a concentration of 10 to 5000 ppm.

         21 . A composition comprising: 
 a polymerizable compound having two or more conjugated unsaturated groups and wherein the composition contains methylene blue in a concentration of 10 to 5000 ppm to prevent premature polymerization of the polymerizable compound.    
     
     
         22 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the polymerizable compound comprises a core having 2 to 10 chains, said conjugated unsaturated groups being attached to any of the last 20 atoms of the chains.  
     
     
         23 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the composition contains methylene blue in a concentration of 20 to 1000 ppm.  
     
     
         24 . Composition according to  claim 21 , comprising less than 5% oxygen.  
     
     
         25 . Composition according to  claim 21 , comprising less than 2% oxygen.  
     
     
         26 . Composition according to  claim 21 , comprising less than 0.5% oxygen.  
     
     
         27 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the polymerizable compound is acrylic acid or an acrylic acid ester or a mixture thereof.  
     
     
         28 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the polymerizable compound is methacrylic acid or a methacrylic acid ester or a mixture thereof.  
     
     
         29 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the conjugated unsaturated groups of the polymerizable compound are selected from the group consisting of acrylates, acrylamides, quinines, and 2- or 4-vinylpyridiniums.  
     
     
         30 . Composition according to  claim 21 , wherein the chains are poly(ethylene glycol) molecules.  
     
     
         31 . Composition according to  claim 30 , wherein the polymerizable compound is a 4- to 8-arm poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate.  
     
     
         32 . A method of preventing premature polymerization of a polymerizable compound having multiple conjugated unsaturated groups, the method comprising providing the compound in an substantially oxygen free environment, and providing methylene blue in an amount of 10 to 5000 ppm to form a stabilized composition.  
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the polymerizable compound comprises a core having 2 to 10 chains, and said conjugated unsaturated groups are attached to any of the last 20 atoms of the chains.  
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the composition is a medicinal composition.  
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the composition is a dental composition.  
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the composition is a pharmaceutical composition.  
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the polymerizable compound forms a biodegradable matrix.  
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the substantially oxygen free environment has an oxygen concentration of less than 5%.  
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the substantially oxygen free environment has an oxygen concentration of less than 2%.  
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the substantially oxygen free environment has an oxygen concentration of less than 0.5%.  
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the methylene blue is provided in an amount of 20 to 1000 ppm.
