Abstract

Methods of treating humans or animals having various conditions are disclosed which include administering a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclosporine component to the human or animal, thereby treating the condition. Among the conditions treated are systemic lupus erythematosis, multiple sclerosis, maloplabia of the skin, oral frictional hyperkeratosis, oral manifestations of autoimmune blistering disease, oral lichen planus, aphthous ulcers, nasal polyps, rhinosporiodosis, sinusitis, iritis, carcinoid lung, laryngitis and atrophic gastritis.

1 . A method of treating a human or animal, the method comprising: 
 topically administering a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclosporine component to a human or animal having a condition selected from the group consisting of systemic lupus erythematosis, and multiple sclerosis, thereby treating the condition.    
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the topically administering step comprises topically administering the cyclosporine component at or near a tissue area of the human or animal affected by the condition.  
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the cyclosporine component comprises cyclosporin A.  
     
     
         4 . A method of treating a human or animal, the method comprising: 
 administering a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclosporine component to a human or animal having a condition selected from the group consisting of (a) maloplakia of the skin, (b) oral frictional hyperkeratosis, (c) oral manifestations of autoimmune blistering disease, (d) oral lichen planus, (e) aphthous ulcers, (f) nasal polyps, (g) rhinosporiodosis, (h) sinusitis, (i) iritis, (j) carcinoid lung, (k) laryngitis and (l) atrophic gastritis, thereby treating the condition.    
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the administering step comprises topically administering the cyclosporine component to the human or animal at or near a tissue area affected by the condition.  
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is maloplakia of the skin.  
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is oral frictional hyperkeratosis.  
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is oral manifestations of autoimmune blistering disease.  
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is oral lichen planus.  
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is aphthous ulcers.  
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is nasal polyps.  
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is rhinosporiodosis.  
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is sinusitis.  
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is iritis.  
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is carcinoid lung.  
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is laryngitis.  
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the condition is atrophic gastritis.  
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the cyclosporine component is selected from the group consisting of cyclosporines, cyclosporine derivatives, salts thereof and mixtures thereof.  
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the cyclosporine component is selected from the group consisting of cyclosporin A, derivatives of cyclosporin A, salts thereof and mixtures thereof.  
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the cyclosporine component comprises cyclosporin A.
