Abstract

An analytic plate or other substrate having a permanent etchable, laserable, and/or developable marking surface coating (referred to herein as an “etchable coating” or as a “developable coating”) that is present on at least a portion of any side or surface thereof and is used to deposit a permanent indicium thereon, and a method of using the analytic plate or substrate.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A markable analytic plate, comprising:
a substrate having an upper surface and constructed from a glass, plastic, or ceramic material; and a coating disposed on the upper surface of the substrate, wherein the coating comprises an etchable, ablatable, or activatable material, such that when the coating is etched, ablated, or activated, an indicium is formed in the coating, and wherein the coating is hydrophobic and/or liquid repellent for forming a liquid containment border on the upper surface of the substrate.

         2 . A markable analytic plate, comprising:
a substrate having an upper surface and a lower surface and constructed from a glass, plastic, or ceramic material; a first coating disposed on the upper surface and/or the lower surface of the substrate wherein the first coating comprises an etchable, ablatable, or activatable material such that when the first coating is etched, ablated, or activated an indicium is formed in the first coating; and a second coating disposed on the upper surface of the substrate, the second coating, comprising a material which is hydrophobic and/or liquid repellent and which forms a liquid containment board on the upper surface of the substrate.

         3 . A markable analytic plate, comprising:
a substrate having an upper surface and a lower surface and constructed from a glass, plastic or ceramic material; and a photoactivatable coating disposed on at least one of the upper surfaces and lower surface of the substrate and wherein the photoactivatable coating is transparent or invisible and substantially completely covers the at least one of the upper surface and lower surface, and wherein when a portion of the photoactivatable coating is exposed to a photoactivating wavelength, the exposed portion is formed into an indicium which is distinguishable from unexposed portions of the photoactivatable coating.
