Compositions for use in golf balls

Abstract

A golf ball comprising a core and a cover is disclosed. At least a layer of the golf ball is made from a low compression, high coefficient of restitution material, and is being supported by a low deformation, high compression layer. The resulting golf ball has high coefficient of restitution at high and low impact speeds and low compression for controlled greenside play.

1 . A golf ball comprising at least one elastomer composition comprising at least one polydiene rubber and at least one isocyanate-containing compound.  
   
   
       2 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the isocyanate-containing compound is chosen from monomeric compounds, polymeric compounds, monoisocyanates, diisocyanates, and polyisocyanates.  
   
   
       3 . The golf ball of  claim 2 , wherein the polymeric compound comprises at least polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate.  
   
   
       4 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the isocyanate-containing compound is present in an amount of 10 phr or less by weight of the elastomer.  
   
   
       5 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the isocyanate-containing compound is present in an amount of 0.1-5 phr by weight of the elastomer.  
   
   
       6 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the elastomer composition at least in part forms at least one portion of the golf ball chosen from inner center, core, inner core layer, intermediate core layer, outer core layer, intermediate layer, cover, inner cover layer, intermediate cover layer, and outer cover layer.  
   
   
       7 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the elastomer composition further comprises at least one co-crosslinking agent and at least one crosslinking initiator.  
   
   
       8 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the moisture scavenger is present in an amount of 0.1-5 phr by weight of the elastomer.  
   
   
       9 . The golf ball of  claim 1 , wherein the elastomer composition at least in part forms at least one portion of the golf ball chosen from inner center, core, inner core layer, intermediate core layer, outer core layer, intermediate layer, cover, inner cover layer, intermediate cover layer, and outer cover layer.
