Impact Resistant Lens, Frame and Tools and Method for Making Same
Abstract
A corrective/ophthalmic lens comprising an impact lip extending from an anterior lens edge and a radial groove adjacent and parallel to the lens lip posterior surface, an eyewear system containing a corrective/ophthalmic lens and a method of making a lens is provided. The lens impact lip size is variable, determined by frame function and the degree of impact protection that is necessary. A posterior surface of the lens impact lip is beveled with a curvature that preferably substantially matches and coincides with the lens anterior curves, producing a lip with no corrective, low residual power effect or negative image effects. Due to the absence of image change and effects through the lens impact lip, in one aspect the present invention eliminates restrictions to the size of the impact lip.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A beveling wheel for eyewear comprising a frustoconical body having a grooving lip extending radially therefrom, at least one mounting aperture disposed in the body, and at least two grinding surfaces.
2 . The invention according to claim 1 , at least one of the grinding surfaces disposed on an exterior of the body and at least one of the grinding surfaces disposed on an exterior of the grooving lip.
3 . The invention according to claim 1 , the beveling wheel having a diameter between about 22 and about 28 mm.
4 . The invention according to claim 1 , the grooving lip having a width of between about 0.5 mm and about 3.0 mm and a depth of between about 0.5 mm and about 3.0 mm.
5 . The invention according to claim 1 , the width of at least one of the at least two grinding surfaces being between about 3 mm and about 9 mm.
6 . A lens rest adapted to accommodate a beveling wheel for eyewear, the beveling wheel comprising a frustoconical body having a grooving lip extending radially therefrom, at least one mounting aperture disposed in the body, and at least two grinding surfaces, the lens rest comprising an aperture dimensioned to accommodate the grooving lip of the beveling wheel.
7 . A method of creating a lens rest in accordance with claim 6 comprising the steps of mounting the beveling wheel on a beveling wheel shaft of a groover device, disposing the lens rest over the beveling wheel and activating the groover device such that the beveling wheel grinds an aperture in the lens rest.
8 . A method of making an eyewear lens in accordance with claim 1 comprising the steps of forming a groove in an eyewear lens with a beveling wheel, the beveling wheel comprising a frustoconical body having a grooving lip extending radially therefrom, at least one mounting aperture disposed in the body, and at least two grinding surfaces.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
