Method of Controlling Storage Device Controlling Apparatus, and Storage Device Controlling Apparatus

Abstract

In a storage device controlling apparatus which includes: a plurality of channel controllers having a circuit board on which are formed a file access processing section receiving from an information processing apparatus requests to input and output data in files as units via a network and an I/O processor outputting to a storage device I/O requests corresponding to the requests to input and output data; and a disk controller executing input and output of data into and from the storage device in response to the I/O requests sent from the I/O processors, at least one of the channel controllers receives data specifying an assignment of a logical volume to the channel controller, the data being sent from the information processing apparatus, and stores the received assignment.

1 . A method of controlling a storage device controlling apparatus comprising steps of: 
 receiving, by said storage device controlling apparatus, data specifying an assignment of a logical volume to said controller, said data being sent from a information processing apparatus;    storing said received assignment by said storage device controlling apparatus,    checking by said storage device controlling apparatus after receiving a data input and output request, whether or not the data input/output request is send from an information processing apparatus allowed to access said storage device controlling apparatus,    wherein said storage device controlling apparatus receives requests to input and output data in files as units from an information processing apparatus via a network and receives requests to input and output data in blocks from an information processing apparatus via a SAN.    
     
     
         2 . The method of controlling a storage device controlling apparatus according to  claim 1 , comprising steps of: 
 processing said data input and output request if said the data input/output request is send from an information processing apparatus allowed to access said storage device controlling apparatus, and    wherein said storage device controlling apparatus checks whether or not the data input/output request is send from an information processing apparatus allowed to access said storage device controlling apparatus based on said stored assignment.    
     
     
         3 . The method of controlling a storage device controlling apparatus according to  claim 2 , 
 wherein said storage device controlling apparatus has a function as a Web server, and    wherein data for updating one of a program or contents of a non-volatile memory of said storage device controlling apparatus is sent to said storage device controlling apparatus by use of a Web page function provided to said information processing apparatus via said network.    
     
     
         4 . The method of controlling a storage device controlling apparatus according to  claim 3 , 
 wherein said program is at least one of a program for enabling an operating system executed by hardware formed on a circuit board to function or an application program operating on the operating system.
