Perhexiline For Treating Chronic Heart Failure

Abstract

Disclosed are methods for the treatment of chronic heart failure, comprising administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of perhexiline, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to treat said chronic heart failure. The chronic heart failure may be non-ischaemic or ischaemic. Also disclosed is the use of perhexiline in the manufacture of a medicament to treat chronic heart failure, including chronic heart failure of a non-ischaemic origin and chronic heart failure of an ischaemic origin.

1 . A method of treating chronic heart failure, which comprises administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of perhexiline, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to treat said chronic heart failure.

A method of treating chronic heart failure, which comprises administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of perhexiline, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to treat said chronic heart failure, wherein said chronic heart failure is chronic heart failure as a result of an initial inciting influence of ischaemia.  
   
   
       3 . A method of treating chronic heart failure, which comprises administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of perhexiline, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to treat said chronic heart failure, wherein said chronic heart failure is a result of an initial non-ischaemic inciting influence.  
   
   
       4 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the animal is a human.  
   
   
       5 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein a salt of perhexiline is used.  
   
   
       6 . A method according to  claim 5 , wherein the salt is the maleate salt.  
   
   
       7 . A method according to any preceding  claim 1 , wherein the perhexiline or salt thereof is used in conjunction with one or more other compounds for treating chronic heart failure or the symptoms thereof.

       13 . A treatment programme for treating chronic heart failure, which comprises the co-use or co-administration of perhexiline with one or more other compounds that are advantageous in treating chronic heart failure or the symptoms thereof.  
   
   
       14 . A treatment programme according to  claim 13 , for the treatment of non-ischaemic chronic heart failure.  
   
   
       15 . A treatment programme according to  claim 13 , for the treatment of chronic heart failure having an ischaemic inciting origin.  
   
   
       16 . A method according to  claim 2 , wherein the animal is a human.  
   
   
       17 . A method according to  claim 3 , wherein the animal is a human.  
   
   
       18 . A method according to  claim 2 , wherein a salt of perhexiline is used.  
   
   
       19 . A method according to  claim 3 , wherein a salt of perhexiline is used.  
   
   
       20 . A method according to  claim 4 , wherein a salt of perhexiline is used.  
   
   
       21 . A method according to  claim 2 , wherein the perhexiline or salt thereof is used in conjunction with one or more other compounds for treating chronic heart failure or the symptoms thereof.  
   
   
       22 . A method according to  claim 3 , wherein the perhexiline or salt thereof is used in conjunction with one or more other compounds for treating chronic heart failure or the symptoms thereof.  
   
   
       23 . A method of improving the myocardial function of a patient comprising the step of administering an effective amount of perhexiline or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
