Claims
Abstract
A screw tip for use in a molding system apparatus is disclosed. The screw tip includes a connection section and screw tip head section. The screw tip head houses an entry port, or entry ports, an accumulation chamber, and a check valve chamber. A check valve is provided when assembled with the screw tip. The check valve may be a cylindrical plate or a spherical member or a conical member.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A screw tip for use in a molding system apparatus, said screw tip comprising:
a body, an entry port in said body, a check valve chamber in said body, and a non-flat translatable member, said non-flat translatable member positioned in said check valve chamber about an axis, said check valve chamber communicating with said entry port to provide a flow path, said check valve chamber having a surface for engaging, in use, said non-flat translatable member operable between a flow position and a shut off position, wherein said check valve chamber in said end of said body is operable in use to control a flow of material.
2 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said non-flat translatable member is selected from the group of spherical, substantially spherical, or substantially conical.
3 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 2 further including:
a plurality of entry ports in said body, wherein said check valve chamber is central in said body about an axis and said plurality of entry ports in said body communicate with said check valve chamber.
4 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 3 wherein said plurality of entry ports are six separate entry ports equally spaced about said body.
5 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said non-flat translatable member includes a sealing surface, and said check valve chamber includes a sealing surface,
said sealing surface of said non-flat translatable member engages said sealing surface of said check valve chamber in said shutoff position preventing, in use, a flow of material.
6 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 or 2 further including:
a support guide, said support guide cooperating with said body and said non-flat translatable member to position said non-flat translatable member in said check valve chamber about said axis and permit said non-flat translatable member to operate, in use, between said flow position and said shut off position.
7 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 6 further including:
a stop member, said stop member cooperating with said body and said non-flat translatable member to limit travel, in use, of said non-flat translatable member in said check valve in said flow position.

The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 6 said support guide is three pins equally spaced about a circumference of said check valve chamber, said pins engaging a sidewall area of said non-flat translatable member to support and guide movement, in use, of said non-flat translatable member.
9 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 7 wherein:
said stop member is a pair of pins equally spaced apart from each other in said check valve chamber for engaging, in use, a surface of said translatable member.
10 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 or 2 further including:
an accumulator chamber, said accumulator chamber intermediate said entry port and said check valve chamber for transferring, in use, a flow of melt from said entry port to said check valve chamber.
11 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 or 2 further including:
a screw, said screw includes an engagement member, said screw tip includes a complimentary member for securing said screw and said screw tip.
12 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 or 2 further including:
a screw, wherein said screw tip is integrally formed on an end of said screw.
13 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 wherein:
said check valve chamber includes a substantially cylindrical sidewall, said non-flat translatable member is substantially spherical, and a diameter of said non-flat translatable member engages, in use, said chamfer portion in said shut off position.
14 . The screw tip for use in the molding system apparatus as in claim 1 wherein:
said check valve chamber includes a conical portion, said non-flat translatable member is substantially conical, and a conical section of said non-flat translatable member engages, in use, said conical portion of said check valve chamber in said shut off position.
15 . The molding system apparatus comprising:
a barrel, a screw, said screw disposed, in use, in said barrel and operable, in use, to rotate and translate, a screw tip body, an entry port in said body, a check valve chamber in said body, a non-flat translatable member, and said non-flat translatable member positioned in said check valve chamber about an axis, said check valve chamber communicating with said entry port to provide a flow path, said check valve chamber having a surface for engaging, in use, said non-flat translatable member operable between a flow position and a shut off position, wherein said check valve chamber in said end of said body is operable in use to control a flow of material.
16 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 wherein said non-flat translatable member is selected from the group of spherical, substantially spherical, or substantially conical.
17 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 16 further including:
a plurality of entry ports in said body, wherein said check valve chamber is central in said body about an axis and said plurality of entry ports in said body communicate with said check valve chamber.
18 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 17 wherein said plurality of entry ports are six separate entry ports equally spaced about said body.
19 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 wherein said non-flat translatable member includes a sealing surface, and said check valve chamber includes a sealing surface,
said sealing surface of said non-flat translatable member engages said sealing surface of said check valve chamber in said shutoff position preventing, in use, a flow of material.
20 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 or 16 further including:
a support guide, said support guide cooperating with said body and said non-flat translatable member to position said non-flat translatable member in said check valve chamber about said axis and permit said non-flat translatable member to operation, in use, between said flow position and said shut off position.
21 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 20 further including:
a stop member, said stop member cooperating with said body and said non-flat translatable member to limit travel, in use, of said non-flat translatable member in said check valve in said flow position.
22 . The molding system apparatus as inc claim 20 said support guide is three pins equally spaced about a circumference of said check valve chamber, said pins engaging a sidewall area of said translatable member to support and guide movement, in use, of said non-flat translatable member.
23 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 21 wherein:
said stop member is a pair of pins equally spaced apart from each other in said check valve chamber for engaging, in use, a surface of said translatable member.
24 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 or 16 further including:
an accumulator chamber, said accumulator chamber intermediate said entry port and said check valve chamber for transferring, in use, a flow of melt from said entry port to said check valve chamber.
25 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 or 16 wherein:
said screw includes an engagement member, said screw tip includes a complimentary member for securing said screw and said screw tip.
26 . The molding system apparatus as in claim 15 or 16 wherein:
said screw tip is integrally formed on an end of said screw.
