Container with a Gyroscope Mounting

Abstract

A container comprises a hollow tubular body ( 12 ), closed at one end ( 16 ) and open at the other ( 18 ), and a platform ( 14 ) in the body gimbal mounted on gimbals ( 24 ) and ( 26 ) to remain horizontal irrespective of the orientation of the body. A handle is provided at the closed end of the body ( 12 ).

1 . A container comprising a hollow tubular outer body, closed at one end and open at the other, a platform in the body gimbal mounted to remain horizontal irrespective of the orientation of the body, and a handle secured to the body at its closed end.

A container as claimed in  claim 1 , in which the gimbal on which the body is mounted comprises an outer gimbal ring pivotally mounted on the inner surface of the body and an inner gimbal ring pivotally mounted on the outer gimbal, the pivot axes being mutually perpendicular and the platform being mounted on the inner gimbal ring.  
   
   
       3 . A container as claimed in  claim 2 , in which the platform is mounted beneath the inner ring and by a peripheral wall, the platform and the peripheral wall forming an inner body.  
   
   
       4 . A container as claimed in  claim 3 , in which the inner and outer bodies are barrel shaped.  
   
   
       5 . A container as claimed in  claim 1 , in which the platform has a bias weight secured to it.  
   
   
       6 . A container as claimed in  claim 1 , in which the handle is flexible.  
   
   
       7 . A container as claimed in  claim 1 , in which the handle is rigid.  
   
   
       8 . A container as claimed in  claim 3 , in which restraining means are associated with the handle to engage the inner body and restrain its movement relative to the outer body when the handle is in its carrying position.  
   
   
       9 . A container as claimed in  claim 8 , in which the restraining means is a pair of legs.  
   
   
       10 . A container as claimed in  claim 8 , in which the restraining means is a cap which closes the inner body.
