Golf club gripping aid and method of use thereof

Abstract

A golf grip, device and method are described to hold a golf club shaft in a manner to avoid pinching the golf club shaft between the fingers and the thumb of the dominant hand. A device of the present invention, in one form, is a golf glove which includes a joining mechanism to affix the thumb and index finger of the dominant hand. The glove of the present invention is used in training and actual play to provide an improved grip which encourages a proper swing of the club.

1 . A method for a golfer to grip a shaft of a golf club prior to swinging, the method comprising the steps of: 
 a. holding the shaft of said golf club with a golfer's weak hand;    b. holding the shaft of said golf club with a golfer's dominant hand such that said weak hand is in closer proximity to said golfer than said dominant hand;    c. placing said shaft of said golf club between two adjacent, non-thumb fingers of the dominant hand, thereby reducing the pinching force on the shaft of the golf club.    
   
   
       2 . The method for a golfer to grip the shaft of a golf club prior to swinging set forth in  claim 1 , wherein placing said shaft of said golf club between the fingers of the dominant hand thereby reducing the pinching force on the shaft of the golf club comprises placing said shaft of said golf club between a forefinger and a middle finger of said dominant hand.  
   
   
       3 . The method for a golfer to grip the shaft of a golf club prior to swinging set forth in  claim 2 , wherein a thumb of said golfer's dominant hand comes in contact with said forefinger of said golfer's dominant hand.  
   
   
       4 . The method for a golfer to grip the shaft of a golf club prior to swinging set forth in  claim 1 , wherein placing said shaft of said golf club between the fingers of the dominant hand thereby reducing the pinching force on the shaft of the golf club comprises placing said shaft of said golf club between a middle finger and a ring finger of said dominant hand.  
   
   
       5 . The method for a golfer to grip the shaft of a golf club prior to swinging set forth in  claim 1 , wherein placing said shaft of said golf club between the fingers of the dominant hand thereby reducing the pinching force on the shaft of the golf club comprises placing said shaft of said golf club between a ring finger and a pinkie finger of said dominant hand.  
   
   
       6 . A golf glove to be worn on a dominant hand of a golfer, comprising: 
 a thumb portion, said thumb portion having a thumb tip;    an index finger portion, said index finger portion having an index finger tip;    a middle finger portion;    said golf glove configured such that said thumb tip on said thumb portion is fastened to said index finger tip on said index finger portion, such that when said golfer wears the golf glove and grasps a golf club, a shaft of said golf club is preferably located between the index finger portion and the middle finger portion of the dominant hand.    
   
   
       7 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 6 , further comprising a pad located between said index finger portion and said middle finger portion.  
   
   
       8 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 6 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are securely fastened.  
   
   
       9 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 8 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are securely fastened by being sewed together.  
   
   
       10 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 8 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are securely fastened by adhesive.  
   
   
       11 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 6 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are removably fastened.  
   
   
       12 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 11 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are removably fastened by velcro.  
   
   
       13 . The golf glove to be worn on the dominant hand of the golfer in  claim 11 , wherein said thumb tip on said thumb portion of said golf glove and said index finger tip on said index finger tip portion of said golf glove are removably fastened by snaps.
