Abstract

A drainage catch basin is formed from a rectangular trough with a planar upper rim defined by at least two opposite sidewalls and includes at least one inner wall forming a lower rim to define the gutter opening for flush mounting with the curb. The basin is covered by a top with a planar bottom that preferably includes a central circular manhole cover. The top is preferably formed by first providing a mold having a bottom and side frame of steel plates reinforced by a galvanized steel nosing and crossing rebar. The mold is then filled by concrete casting while installed on the catch basin trough to match the exterior color and/or finish of the adjacent sidewalk, street and/or curb.

 a) a metal frame with a substantially planar bottom for sealing to the rim of a catch basin, including outer substantially upright surrounding walls for retaining poured concrete, b) a circular central portal having a circular substantially upright surrounding walls for retaining poured concrete, with an inward extending horizontal flange for supporting a circular manhole cover.

       6 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 5 that further comprises at least two pairs of threaded inserts that extend laterally into opposite upright surrounding walls.

       7 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 5 and further comprising one or more reinforcing bars that extend across said metal frame and penetrate at least one side of the substantially upright walls to provide external handles for moving the mold.

       8 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to  claim 5  that comprises at least four reinforcing bars, including;
 a) a first pair of two reinforcing bars which extends parallel to each other and across said metal frame to penetrate each opposing side of the substantially upright walls to provide two pairs of external handles for moving the mold, b) at least a second pair of two reinforcing bars which extends parallel and perpendicular to said first pair of reinforcing bars as they span across said metal frame, each of the reinforcing bars of said second pair connecting to a substantially upright walls at one end and having at least a portion that connects to at least one of the circular substantially upright wall surrounding the circular central portal and the opposite substantially upright wall.

       9 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 8 wherein each reinforcing bar of the first pair is connected to at least one reinforcing bar of the second pair within the volume for receiving poured concrete.

       10 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 5 that further comprises a secondary mold section that rests on the inward extending horizontal flange of the circular central portal, the secondary mold section being for forming a circular manhole cover and comprising:
 a) a substantially circular bottom, b) substantially upright walls surrounding said circular bottom for forming a fluid containing vessel.

       11 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 10 wherein said secondary mold section further comprises at least one reinforcing rod that spans between said substantially upright walls.

       12 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid according to claim 8 that further comprises at least two pairs of threaded inserts that extend laterally into opposite upright surrounding walls.

       13 . A mold for forming a catch basin lid, the mold comprising:
 a) a substantially horizontal upper mold surface having a forward side and an opposing back side, b) a back descending downward from the opposing back side of said substantially horizontal upper mold surface, c) a pair of curved sides descending downward from the sides of said a substantially horizontal upper mold surface between the forward side and the opposing back side, the curved sides defining an opening there between, d) a metal nose guard extending upward along the forward side of said substantially horizontal upper mold surface, e) one or more elongated handles having a horizontal section extending backward from the upper edge of said metal nose guard to a point substantially above the extension beyond the opposing back side, being then connected to vertical portion descending downward to connect to the upper portion of the opposing back side.
