Abstract
A liquid crystal display device, in which a liquid crystal layer is supported by a liquid crystal substrate, in which an orientation-controlling layer is formed on a surface of the liquid crystal substrate to regulate an orientation of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer in the predetermined direction, and the orientation-controlling layer is formed by an incorporated additive added to the liquid crystal.

a pair of substrates; a liquid crystal layer arranged between said pair of substrates; and an orientation controlling layer, formed between said liquid crystal layer and at least one of said pair of substrates, controlling orientations of liquid crystal molecules in said liquid crystal layer; said liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules and at least one of a monofunctional monomer and a polyfunctional monomer, and said orientation controlling layer including a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said at least one of a monofunctional monomer and a polyfunctional monomer.
2 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional monomer, and a polyfunctional monomer and, said orientation controlling layer includes a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said monofunctional monomer and said polyfunctional monomer.
3 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules and a bifunctional acrylate monomer and, said orientation controlling layer includes a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said bifunctional acrylate monomer.
4 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional acrylate monomer having a vertical orientation group, and a bifunctional acrylate monomer and, said orientation controlling layer includes a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said monofunctional acrylate monomer and said bifunctional acrylate monomer.
5 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional monomer having a straight-chain alkyl, and a bifunctional monomer and, said orientation controlling layer includes a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said monofunctional monomer and said bifunctional monomer.
6 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional acrylate monomer, and a polyfunctional acrylate monomer and, said orientation controlling layer includes a polymer obtained by a polymerization of said monofunctional acrylate monomer and said polyfunctional acrylate monomer.
7 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 6 , wherein
said liquid crystal layer includes a photo polymerization initiator.
8 . A method of producing a liquid crystal display device comprising a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer arranged between said pair of substrates, and an orientation controlling layer, formed between said liquid crystal layer and at least one of said pair of substrates, controlling orientations of liquid crystal molecules in said liquid crystal layer, comprising the steps of;
injecting, between said pair of substrate, liquid crystal molecules and at least one of a monofunctional monomer and a polyfunctional monomer to form said liquid crystal layer and, polymerizing said at least one of a monofunctional monomer and a polyfunctional monomer to form said orientation controlling layer.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein
liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional monomer, and a polyfunctional monomer are injected between said pair of substrate in said step of injecting and, said monofunctional monomer and said polyfunctional monomer are polymerized in said step of polymerizing.
10 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein
liquid crystal molecules and a bifunctional acrylate monomer are injected between said pair of substrate in said step of injecting and, said bifunctional acrylate monomer is polymerized in said step of polymerizing.
11 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein
liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional acrylate monomer having a vertical orientation group, and a bifunctional acrylate monomer are injected between said pair of substrate in said step of injecting and, said monofunctional acrylate monomer and said bifunctional acrylate monomer are polymerized in said step of polymerizing.
12 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein
liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional monomer having a straight-chain alkyl, and a bifunctional monomer are injected between said pair of substrate in said step of injecting and, said monofunctional monomer and said bifunctional monomer are polymerized in said step of polymerizing.
13 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein
liquid crystal molecules, a monofunctional acrylate monomer, and a polyfunctional acrylate monomer are injected between said pair of substrate in said step of injecting and, said monofunctional acrylate monomer and said polyfunctional acrylate monomer are polymerized in said step of polymerizing.
14 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein
