Claims

Abstract

A liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: a first substrate; a second substrate; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; and a plurality of picture element regions for displaying an image. Each of the plurality of picture element regions includes a transmission region in which an image is displayed in a transmission mode by using light that is coming from the side of the first substrate, and a reflection region in which an image is displayed in a reflection mode by using light that is coming from the side of the second substrate. The height of a surface of the second substrate on the side closer to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection region is greater than that in the transmission region, while the height of a surface of the first substrate on the side closer to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection region is substantially equal to that in the transmission region.

       24 . A liquid crystal display device, comprising: 
 an active matrix substrate;    a color filter substrate including a transparent substrate and a color filter layer;    a liquid crystal layer provided between the active matrix substrate and the color filter substrate; and    a picture element region including a transmission region in which an image is displayed in a transmission mode, and a reflection region in which an image is displayed in a reflection mode, wherein:    a thickness of the liquid crystal layer is less in the reflection region than in the transmission region;    a height of a surface of the color filter substrate on a side closer to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection region is greater than that in the transmission region;    the color filter substrate includes a first transparent dielectric region and a second transparent dielectric region both defined in the reflection region;    the first transparent dielectric region is provided on the transparent substrate and at least partially surrounded on at least two sides by the color filter layer;    the second transparent dielectric region is provided on the color filter layer and adjacent to the first transparent dielectric region; and    a thickness d 1  of the first transparent dielectric region is larger than a thickness d 2  of the second transparent dielectric region.    
   
   
       25 . The liquid crystal display of  claim 24 , wherein only the single first transparent dielectric region is defined in the single reflection region.  
   
   
       26 . The liquid crystal display of  claim 24 , wherein a sum of a thickness dc of the color filter layer and the thickness d 2  of the second transparent dielectric region is substantially equal to the thickness d 1  of the first transparent dielectric region.  
   
   
       27 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 25 , wherein a sum of a thickness dc of the color filter layer and the thickness d 2  of the second transparent dielectric region is substantially equal to the thickness d 1  of the first transparent dielectric region.  
   
   
       28 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 24 , wherein the first transparent dielectric region is in contact with the color filter layer and the second transparent dielectric region along a thickness-direction.  
   
   
       29 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 25 , wherein the first transparent dielectric region is in contact with the color filter layer and the second transparent dielectric region along a thickness-direction.  
   
   
       30 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 26 , wherein the first transparent dielectric region is in contact with the color filter layer and the second transparent dielectric region along a thickness-direction.  
   
   
       31 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 24 , wherein the color filter substrate further includes a counter electrode formed so as to cover the first transparent dielectric region and the second transparent dielectric region.  
   
   
       32 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 26 , wherein the color filter substrate further includes a counter electrode formed so as to cover the first transparent dielectric region and the second transparent dielectric region.  
   
   
       33 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 28 , wherein the color filter substrate further includes a counter electrode formed so as to cover the first transparent dielectric region and the second transparent dielectric region.  
   
   
       34 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 28 , wherein the first transparent dielectric region and the second transparent dielectric region are made of a photosensitive resin material.  
   
   
       35 . The liquid crystal display device of  claim 31 , wherein the first transparent dielectric region and the second transparent dielectric region are made of a photosensitive resin material.
