Abstract

A modular laundry system comprises a first laundry appliance and a second laundry appliance horizontally arranged relative to the first laundry appliance. The modular laundry system further comprises a laundry care function horizontal module vertically arranged with the first and second laundry appliances and having an associated laundry care function and a width that at least partially spans at least the first and second laundry appliances.

 a first laundry appliance;    a second laundry appliance horizontally arranged relative to the first laundry appliance; and    a laundry care function horizontal module vertically arranged with the first and second laundry appliances and having an associated laundry care function and a width that at least partially spans at least the first and second laundry appliances.    
   
   
       2 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the first laundry appliance is a washing machine, and the second laundry appliance is a dryer.  
   
   
       3 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module is vertically arranged above the first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       4 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module completely spans the first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       5 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module is a double width horizontal module.  
   
   
       6 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 5 , wherein the first and second laundry appliances have a collective width that defines a double width.  
   
   
       7 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module has a front wall flush with front walls of the first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       8 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space.  
   
   
       9 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 8 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module further comprises a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space.  
   
   
       10 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 9 , wherein the laundry care function is at least partially carried out in the drawer.  
   
   
       11 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function is selected from a group comprising washing, drying, refreshing, sanitizing, stain removal, ironing, hand steaming, and sink.  
   
   
       12 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1 , wherein the laundry care function is a drying function, and the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space and a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space and configured to support an item to be dried.  
   
   
       13 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 12 , wherein the drawer comprises a drying rack to support the item to be dried.  
   
   
       14 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 1  and further comprising a work surface extending across an upper surface of the vertically arranged laundry care function horizontal module and first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       15 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , wherein the work surface is removably mounted to the laundry care function horizontal module.  
   
   
       16 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , wherein the work surface comprises opposing sides with each side configured for performing an associated function.  
   
   
       17 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , wherein the work surface comprises a non-skid surface.  
   
   
       18 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , wherein the work surface comprises an ironing surface.  
   
   
       19 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , wherein the work surface comprises a hygienic material.  
   
   
       20 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 14 , where in the work surface comprises a hanging bar.  
   
   
       21 . A modular laundry system comprising: 
 a first laundry appliance;    a second laundry appliance horizontally arranged relative to the first laundry appliance to define an interface between the first and second laundry appliances; and    a laundry care function horizontal module having an associated laundry care function and vertically arranged with the first and second laundry appliances to span the interface between the first and second laundry appliances.    
   
   
       22 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the first and second laundry appliances are immediately adjacent one another.  
   
   
       23 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the first laundry appliance is a washing machine, and the second laundry appliance is a dryer.  
   
   
       24 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a front wall flush with front walls of the first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       25 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module has a width greater than a width of the first laundry appliance and greater than a width of the second laundry appliance.  
   
   
       26 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 25 , wherein the width of the laundry care function horizontal module completely spans a combined width of the first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       27 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space.  
   
   
       28 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 27 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module further comprises a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space.  
   
   
       29 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 28 , wherein the laundry care function is at least partially carried out in the drawer.  
   
   
       30 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the laundry care function is selected from a group comprising washing, drying, refreshing, sanitizing, stain removal, ironing, hand steaming, and sink.

The modular laundry system according to  claim 21 , wherein the laundry care function is a drying function, and the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space and a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space and configured to support an item to be dried.  
   
   
       32 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 31 , wherein the drawer comprises a drying rack to support the item to be dried.  
   
   
       33 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 21  and further comprising a work surface extending across an upper surface of the vertically arranged laundry care function horizontal module and first and second laundry appliances.  
   
   
       34 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , wherein the work surface is removably mounted to the laundry care function horizontal module.  
   
   
       35 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , wherein the work surface comprises opposing sides with each side configured for performing an associated function.  
   
   
       36 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , wherein the work surface comprises a non-skid surface.  
   
   
       37 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , wherein the work surface comprises an ironing surface.  
   
   
       38 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , wherein the work surface comprises a hygienic material.  
   
   
       39 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 33 , where in the work surface comprises a hanging bar.  
   
   
       40 . A modular laundry system comprising: 
 a washing machine;    a dryer; and    a laundry care function horizontal module configured to be mounted above or below the washing machine and dryer and having an associated laundry care function and a width greater than a width of one of the washing machine and dryer.    
   
   
       41 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 40 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module has a width about equal to a combined width of the washing machine and dryer.  
   
   
       42 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 40 , wherein the laundry care function is selected from a group comprising washing, drying, refreshing, sanitizing, stain removal, ironing, hand steaming, and sink.

The modular laundry system according to  claim 40 , wherein the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space and a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space, wherein the laundry care function is at least partially carried out in the drawer.

The modular laundry system according to  claim 40 , wherein the laundry care function is a drying function, and the laundry care function horizontal module comprises a housing that defines an interior space and a drawer slidably mounted to the housing for movement relative to the interior space and configured to support an item to be dried.  
   
   
       45 . The modular laundry system according to  claim 40  and further comprising a work surface configured to extend across the width of the laundry care function horizontal module.
