Door glass assembly with powered blind

Abstract

A self-contained, electrically powered door glass unit including a glass assembly, a window covering within the glass assembly, an electric motor driving the window covering, a battery pack powering the motor, and a frame adapted to support the unit within a door. A magnetic clutch is included between the motor and the window covering to prevent excessive loads on the motor at the physical limits of the movement of the window covering.

1 . A window assembly comprising: 
 an insulated glass including two panels defining an enclosed space therebetween;    a window covering within said enclosed space, said window covering including an actuator rod rotatable between limits;    an electric motor having a rotatable output; and    a clutch interconnecting said rotatable output and said rotatable actuator rod, said clutch permitting relative movement between said output and said rod when said rod reaches one of the limits.    
   
   
       2 . A window assembly as defined in  claim 1  wherein said clutch comprises a magnetic clutch.  
   
   
       3 . A window assembly as defined in  claim 2  wherein said magnetic clutch includes a pair of button magnets.  
   
   
       4 . A window assembly as defined in  claim 1  wherein: 
 said window covering comprises a blind including a plurality of slats; and    said actuator rod controls the tilt of said slats.    
   
   
       5 . A powered window covering assembly comprising: 
 a window covering having a rotatable actuator;    an electric motor; and    a clutch coupled between said drive mechanism and said rotatable actuator.    
   
   
       6 . A powered window covering as defined in  claim 5  wherein said clutch comprises a magnetic clutch.  
   
   
       7 . A powered window covering as defined in  claim 6  wherein said magnetic clutch includes a pair of button magnets.  
   
   
       8 . A powered window covering as defined in  claim 5  wherein said window covering comprises a blind.  
   
   
       9 . A powered window covering as defined in  claim 8  wherein: 
 said blind includes slats; and    said actuator rod controls the tilt of said slats.
