ITFM extraction of oil seed
Abstract
An edible protein-containing meal for human and animal consumption and high quality food grade oils are obtained from oil seeds and other oil and protein containing plants. The meal has a significantly improved level of dietary available (absorbable) protein. The protein is substantially free of oils and fats, and is a cleaner, purer product with high levels of absorbable protein. Such protein isolates can be used as such or added to formulated foods in order to increase the total protein content of that food. The meal produced and the oils recovered have compositions which are unique and unobtainable by prior processing methods, having a greater content of proteins, the proteins having a greater solubility and an increased ratio of high to medium molecular weight proteins.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An edible oil-free substantially defatted material recovered from canola comprising bright yellow, readily dispersed pieces of Endosperm having a protein content of at least about 41% w and a solubility in NaCl solution of at least about 29 mg/ml.
2 . An edible high protein content meal recovered from an oil and protein containing plant, the meal having a protein content at of least about 95% of the theoretical maximum in said oil and protein containing plant and a soluble protein content of at least about 90% of the theoretical maximum in said oil and protein containing plant, the high protein meal being substantially oil and fat free.
3 . The high protein content meal of claim 2 wherein the oil and protein containing plants are selected from the group consisting of Brassica seeds, rape seed, canola, soybean, cottonseed, peanut, sunflower seed, coconut, groundnut, flax seed, mustard seed, olive, wheat, corn, oats, rye, barley, triticale, nuts, starchy legumes, field peas, chickpeas, fababeans, navy beans and pinto beans.
4 . The high protein content meal of claim 2 wherein the ratio of protein having a molecular weight of about 360,000 daltons to proteins having a medium molecular weight of about 160,000 daltons in the meal is greater then in protein meal derived from the same source recovered using hexane processing.
5 . The high protein content meal of claim 2 said meal being substantially free of glucosinolates.
6 . An edible oil substantially free of fatty acids said oil recovered from oil and protein containing plants.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
