Storage medium initialization method, and recording and reproducing method and apparatus

Abstract

A storage medium initializing method includes the steps of detecting a mode corresponding to a recording format to be loaded on a storage medium; and initializing the storage medium according to the mode detected in the detecting step. A recording and reproducing method and apparatus are configured to detect a type of storage medium loaded onto the apparatus and adjust the recording and reproducing processes accordingly.

1 . A storage medium initializing method, comprising: 
 detecting a mode, set by a user, corresponding to a recording format to be loaded on a storage medium; and    initializing said storage medium according to said mode detected in said detecting step,    wherein said initializing step includes recording, on the storage medium in a first recording format, an alert track managed by management data recorded on the storage medium, the alert track including audio data recorded thereon that is audibilized if the storage medium is loaded into an incompatible apparatus; and    wherein said initializing step includes recording a unique identification to an area of the storage medium unreadable by users of the storage medium.
