Abstract

A firearm and a trigger mechanism having a small trigger pull force, small trigger pull distance, and a large sear engagement is provided. The firearm and trigger mechanism of the present invention provides a safe firearm having a light and crisp trigger pull. Certain embodiments of the present invention may also provide for a firearm or trigger mechanism having a ratio of sear engagement to trigger pull distance that is greater than or equal to 1.0. Certain embodiments of the present invention may also provide for a firearm and a trigger mechanism operably connected with one or more jewel bearings.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A firearm comprising:
a sear assembly which comprises a sear; a trigger assembly which comprises a trigger; a firing pin assembly which comprises a cocking piece; and wherein the sear assembly, the trigger assembly, and the firing pin assembly are operably connected to each other so that one or more rolling elements obstruct the movement of the cocking piece until the trigger is pulled to a firing position.

2 . The firearm as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the cocking piece comprises the rolling element.

3 . The firearm as claimed in claim 2 , wherein
the sear assembly further comprises a sear catch.

4 . The firearm as claimed in claim 3 , further comprising
a receiver; the sear being connected to the receiver by a sear pin, the sear catch being connected to the receiver by a sear catch pin, and the trigger being connected to the sear catch by a trigger pin.

5 . The firearm as claimed in claim 4 , wherein
one or more regions contacting the sear pin comprises a low friction element, one or more regions contacting the sear catch pin comprises a low friction element, and one or more regions contacting the trigger pin comprises a low friction element.

6 . The firearm as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the low friction element comprises a jewel material.

7 . The firearm as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the jewel material comprises ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

8 . The firearm as claimed in claim 1 ,
the sear assembly further comprising a sear roller that is operably connected to obstruct the movement of the cocking piece until the trigger is pulled to a firing position; wherein the sear roller comprises a low friction material.

9 . The firearm as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the low friction material comprises a jewel material.

10 . The firearm as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the jewel material comprises ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

11 . The firearm as claimed in claim 8 , further comprising a receiver,
the sear being connected to the receiver by a sear pin, wherein one or more regions of the receiver contacting the sear pin comprises the low friction material.

12 . The firearm as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising
means for providing one or more regions that are in contact with one or more pins comprised in the firearm with a low friction material.

13 . The firearm as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the low friction material comprises a jewel material.

14 . The firearm as claimed in claim 13 , wherein the jewel material comprises ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

       15 . A trigger mechanism comprising:
a sear assembly which comprises a sear; a trigger assembly which comprises a trigger; a firing pin assembly which comprises a cocking piece; and wherein the sear assembly, the trigger assembly, and the firing pin assembly are operably connected to each other so that one or more rolling elements obstructs the movement of the cocking piece until the trigger is pulled to a firing position.

16 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the cocking piece comprises the rolling element.

17 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 16 , wherein
the sear assembly further comprises a sear catch.

18 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 15 ,
the sear assembly further comprising a sear roller that is operably connected to obstruct the movement of the cocking piece until the trigger is pulled to a firing position; wherein the sear roller comprises a low friction material.

19 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 18 , wherein the low friction material comprises a jewel material.

20 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 19 , wherein the jewel material comprises ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

21 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 15 , further comprising
means for providing one or more regions that are each in contact with a pin comprised in the trigger mechanism with a low friction material.

22 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 21 , wherein the low friction material comprises a jewel material.

23 . The firearm as claimed in claim 22 , wherein the jewel material comprises ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

       24 . A trigger mechanism comprising:
a sear assembly comprising a sear and a sear catch; and a trigger assembly comprising a trigger; the sear assembly and the trigger assembly being operably connected to each other to provide a ratio of sear engagement to a trigger pull distance that is greater than or equal to 0.5 and less than or equal to 6.0; the sear assembly and the trigger assembly being operably connected to each other through one or more low friction materials; the sear engagement being an overlap of the sear and the sear catch; and the trigger pull distance being a distance traveled by the trigger from a set position to a position which causes the sear and the sear catch to be disengaged from each other.

25 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 24 , wherein
the one or more low friction materials comprise one or more jewel pivots; and the one or more jewel pivots comprise a material containing ruby, sapphire, garnet, or any mixtures thereof.

26 . The trigger mechanism as claimed in claim 24 , further comprising:
a firing pin assembly comprising a cocking piece; wherein the cocking piece comprises a rolling element that obstructs the movement of the cocking piece until the trigger is pulled to a position which causes the sear and the sear catch to be disengaged from each other.
